Barry Island (Whitmore Bay) is a great day out, even in the winter months. It is a traditional seaside resort with arcades, an amusement park, crazy golf and a promenade with public toilets and plenty of places to eat and drink. There is a fantastic flat, clean, spacious beach with easy access to the sand. The beach is great for walking and the scenery is amazing. There is ample parking along the promenade, as well as numerous car parks. If visiting Barry Island, there are number of other attractions worth a visit including Barry Town Centre, The Knap, Porthkerry Country Park, Friars Point and Jackson Bay Beach.

We had an amazing day at Barry Island, even though it was winter. Barry Island is great for everyone and is one of those places you can visit all year round. There is so much to do including, playing crazy golf, visiting the fairground and the slot machines, fishing in the rock pools or taking a walk to Friars Point. There is plenty of parking near the beach and there are lots of places to eat and drink along the promenade. There are also beach huts and deckchairs to hire. We took a stroll along the beach which was flat and spacious. The beach was very clean with a handful of people enjoying the great outdoors. One family were even having a picnic. After our stroll we went to Friars Point, which had amazing views over the Bristol Channel and benches to eat a picnic or to appreciate the great surroundings. After our walk we ate fish and chips in the outside seating area of Boofys (located at the Western shelter) which was lovely and very reasonable made with quality ingredients. Once we finished eating we visited the Knap before driving to Barry Town Centre. Barry Town centre is traditional with the usual high street favourites.

We arrived at Barry Island at 9am so that we could park easily and find a remote spot on the beach. The beach was immaculate and the weather was beautiful. There were a few families enjoying spending time together. The sea was out so there was plenty of space to ensure social distancing. At lunch time we had a walk along the front until we came to Romy's cafe. I ordered chips but only ate a few because they didn't look too appetising. After this we spent some time in the arcades before heading to Barry town centre to do some shopping. At the town centre you will find Pep & Co, B & M food, W H Smith, Card Factory and so on. The town wasn't too busy and there were lots of places to eat. On the way home we popped to Morrison's at Barry docks for a bite to eat.
