For history buffs this is a must. Beautifully laid out with huge mausoleums, humble stones, bush rangers, premiers, war heroes, you name it, they are there! I was impressed with the family mausoleums which were scaled down replicas of special buildings. There is a large memorial to holicaust victims. Too much to see all in one day, I must go... More

So much to see and do here. Heritage rose garden, honey from the resident bee hives for sale in the main office, historical headstones, tours run by the Friends of Rookwood, annual open day, interesting architecture in the buildings and vaults, military sections and numerous memorials and explore the language of flowers as carved on the headstones... - the list... Fascinating place to visit but allow yourself plenty of time and expect to do lots of walking. I can understand the claim tbat this is the biggest necropolis in the Southern Hemisphere. The cemetery is divided into sections primarily based on religion but there are special sections for deceased nuns and priests and for victims of disasters such as the... More

Rookwood cemetery is like a huge private park in the middle of Sydney, originally landscaped when it was created for day trippers catching the train out to visit the graves of relatives it still has ornate plantings around serpentine canals and the resthouses people would picnic in. I particularly like the section around The Chapel of The Archangel Michael for... More

Rookwood cemetery is a really interesting place to visit at any time but particularly now when the Hidden sculpture walk is happening (until the 23rd October) There are so many interesting graves, some for the fact of who is buried within the grave, but also because of the beauty of lots of the stonework. There is a volunteer group called... More

Reputedly the largest cemetery in Southern Hemisphere, Rookwood traces the history of Sydney from the late 1860s to the current with interesting examples of burial sites, churches, crematoriums from all religious groups. It is well worth a visit and many prominent Sydney identities are buried at Rookwood. It is a high place and at times, has a lot of traffic.... More

Huge cemetery but showing its age now. It's a shame to see so many gravestones run down or neglected. Some of the newer areas do look impressive. Direction signposts are a bit confusing or offer limited information.

This is too big for cemetery in my mind. The have a too good Mausoleum at Catholic Lawn. Each part have their own religious building like Church, Mosque and Temple. Even the crematorium. Wow.

Rookwood is an amazing place. So much history is literally buried there. I have relatives buried in the Anglican & Catholic part of Rookwood & its amazing just reading some of the headstones - some that have lived a good long life some that have had a very short life. There is a cafe call Reflection where you can stop... More

We came to place flowers on families graves. When we went to place flowers on the newer graves that they seemed to have been moved!! Same section just not were we recalled them to be a couple of years ago. We than moved onto the older graves, near one of the small chapels. They were neat and tidy. We than... More
