The area
Neighbourhood: Manly
A 40-minute ferry ride from Circular Quay will take you to the famous northern beach of Manly. The beaches here are perfect for learning to surf or spending the day sun-tanning. The walk from Spit Bridge to Manly is a great way to experience Sydney Harbour Bay and the Australian bush land. Along the foreshore, there are plenty of watering holes and wine bars with excellent cuisine. There are plenty of kid-friendly restaurants as well, especially along the family-oriented areas like Shelly Beach. An excellent way to experience Manly is to rent a bike and explore the dedicated bike paths and off road trails. The North Head National Park is another must-see. Located on the southern tip of Manly, North Head National Park offers great bushwalks and panoramic views of the city.

really enjoyable
Feb. 2021
great place for snorkeling,
however a bit wavy , so if you are very beginner or if your swimming skill is not good, i would suggest Shelly beach in shallow areas

if you drive, you can use 2 hours free council car park. but more than 2 hours will be a bit expensive.

Best snorkelling in Sydney
Jan. 2021
At least of the places I've been. All the way from Shelly Beach (a great beach itself which provides the easiest access to the water) to the headland near Manly beach has a huge variety of fish and some spectacular rocks.

Very picturesque
Dec. 2019
Located at the southern end of Manly Beach, Cabbage Tree Bay Reserve is beautiful and peaceful. The walk from Manly Beach is easy and safe with great views. The bay is an aquatic reserve and fishing by any method is prohibited. At the time of our visit the area was very busy and is very popular during weekends. Facilities are limited although there are BBQs for general use. A great visit.

Good diving
Nov. 2019
Great area to shore dive, saw lots of amazing ocean life including a massive ray that was breathtaking. I would imagine this would be just as good snorkeling as well.

Lots of blue groper
Nov. 2019 • Solo
A very nice aquatic reserve. Best to snorkel from the steps before the rock pool. I swam from Shelley beach, saw some fishes but a long swim to the reserve. I saw maybe 5 to 7 blue gropers, bream, strippy fishes, leather jackets, cuttlefishes. Pretty good although not as good as Fiji. But very pretty nevertheless.

SUMMER LAND
Sep. 2019
One of the most beautiful walkways in the world and in winter is sheltered from the southerly winds with a north facing vista. The local council try to maintain it without success for some reason cant resurface the path to a 1st world standard or build a decent fence.

Very enjoyable coastal walk

An enjoyable coastal walkway between Manly and Shelley beaches. Some interesting rock formations, and lovely views of the beaches and ocean.

Amazing rock formation
Sep. 2019
The rock formation along this footpath is just amazing. The erosion of rock by wave over time has done a miracle to turn this area to produce such beautiful seascape that is both entertaining and educational.
