You really should take half a day or more and catch the ferry from Sydney to Manly, hire a bike and ride around the iconic North Heads. The ride up to the heads is the only hard part. The seaward vista is breathtaking, and the views back through the harbour are lovely. There's something for nature lovers, military history buffs,... More

North Head Sanctuary is a great place to explore either by walking or by bicycle as lots of very good tracks to ride on. We spent a whole day there exploring. We started at the Old Military Base where you could view from the outside the barracks and also the huge parade ground. Throughout North Head there are old guns... More

I have stopped here on my way on the Manly Scenic Walk up to the cliff. You can walk there like I did, drive your park (plenty of parking slots) or take a bus from Manly Wharf. (Review the schedule before you do!) There is not much around there but one café and an information center. Do grab one of... More

Follow the fairfax lookout loop and see the views out to sea and the other view to the harbour. We went on a clear day and the view was stunning. Can get very windy in certain spots. Visit the war memorial walk with its own lookout and memorial. If we had had more time we would have walked back into... More

Go at sunset. Take a camera. Can see the Sydney Harbor entrance. Boats in and out. Cliffs. Great place to watch for whales - we didn't see any. Excellent to walk around the Head and enjoy.

There is everything from guided tours around North Head to walking through the old School of Artillery, to strolling along the walking tracks through the bush. Lots of plant life to see. It is rather good and a lot of history. The views from North Head are something quite special, especially at sun set.

A great walk where you could see a lot of nature and former military base. On the top is amazing view on to Sydney, Harbour and Ocean. Some time you could see whales fountains from the top!

Staying in Manly

Neighbourhood Profile
Manly
A 40-minute ferry ride from Circular Quay will take you to the famous northern beach of Manly. The beaches here are perfect for learning to surf or spending the day sun-tanning. The walk from Spit Bridge to Manly is a great way to experience Sydney Harbour Bay and the Australian bush land. Along the foreshore, there are plenty of watering holes and wine bars with excellent cuisine. There are plenty of kid-friendly restaurants as well, especially along the family-oriented areas like Shelly Beach. An excellent way to experience Manly is to rent a bike and explore the dedicated bike paths and off road trails. The North Head National Park is another must-see. Located on the southern tip of Manly, North Head National Park offers great bushwalks and panoramic views of the city.
