Unique area near University of the South-Sewanee

Many houses in small area behind gates. Very confusing to get out though! Lost inside for 40 minutes and could not find the exit!!!

This is a Southern Chautauqua for 8 weeks in the summer, and the activities for all ages are educational and fun. You can rent a house for all or part of the season, or you can stay at the Edgeworth Inn that is also in the property.

Stayed here in a Bed & Breakfast and thought it was really cool. This gated little community is a throw back to Mayberry. We enjoyed riding our bikes and swimming in the pool. The Point here was breathtaking! Really cool place to visit!

The Assembly is fully booked during Parents Weekend for the University of the South and many of the houses offer a bit of quiet away from the University itself

In the summer of 2001, the kids and I stayed almost a month at this little mountain enclave of vintage southern summer homes. There were programs for the kids, programs for the adults, quiet time, music, bicycle riding, hiking, eating and a laid back kind of vacation you can only dream about. Since then I have moved back to the... More

My wife and I both walked and drove through MSSA. It is unlike any other community we've seen. The Victorian houses take you back in time. We also discovered that some cottages can be rented and hope to stay in one on our next trip to Monteagle. The history is fascinating. I discovered there are other assemblies like this, including... While the "heyday" of this amazing community is past, the feel is still there when you drive through. The pine trees, the older restored cabins and the entire mall area has a very neat feel to it. Drove through today and enjoyed the colorful foliage that surrounds the homes. Well worth a stop if you are traveling across the mountain.

It's a different atmosphere in the mountains. In the very beginning of the movie, "Smokey & The Bandit," Jerry Reed sang a song about Bandit loosing his breaks coming down Monteagle Mountain. Rosa Parks attended some freedom rider planning sessions at The Assembly. It's definitely worth a drive-through.

This Chautauqua community dates from the 1880's with magnificent homes and public facilities. There are some year-round residents but most come for the 8 week season in the summer. That adds another 1,000 charming people to the mountain community. Many of the beautiful homes have been in the same family for several generations. The Assembly is open year-round for tourist... Just returned from a trip through the assembly. My husband went as a child for several years. We stayed at the Edgeworth Inn and had a lovely time. Enjoyed the beautiful leaf color. Hope to return again soon.
