Overview
More
PUFFING BILLY OPERATES DAILY EXCEPT CHRISTMAS DAY. Puffing Billy is Australia’s favorite steam train and one of the finest preserved steam railways in the world. This century-old steam train continues to run on its original mountain track from Belgrave to Gembrook in the magnificent Dandenong Ranges 40kms east of Melbourne. Puffing Billy was built to serve at the turn of the century and is a genuine relic of our more leisurely days. The Railway is the major survivor of four experimental lines used to develop rural areas in the early 1900s. Puffing Billy Railway is now a major tourist attraction and operates every day except Christmas Day, thanks to the tireless efforts of more than 900 dedicated volunteers.

I went to Belgrave by train on a Sunday because I wanted to catch the bus to go to the Dandenong Ranges. Apparently there's no bus service on Sundays. So what to do? I saw the sign to the Puffing Billy - so I thought...More

Nice day out, great views, great train. For all ages, worth the money spent on tickets. Gets rather full on weekends.

This delightful little steam train was all about the train/trip and not necessarily the destination. We chose the Natter Platter and although expensive, was presented well and tasted delicious. Loved the experience and would definitely recommend it. Thank you!

Puffing Billy is a lovely tourist attraction requiring at least half a day's time allocation to really enjoy the full experience. We took public transport there, catching the Ringwood Limited Express after missing the direct Belgrave train from Flinders Street station. No worries, we got...More

We enjoyed a wonderful experience travelling from Belgrave to Emerald/Lakeside on Puffing Billy. It was a great winter's day but as the carriages are open to the air I suggest wearing a jacket, beanie, scarf and gloves. We agree that food is a bit limited...More

We enjoyed the ride so much. Riding through the magnificent forest with legs dangling out, enjoying mountain view from Belgrave to Lakeside. It is chilly and slight discomfort when the tiny particles flew into our eyes. Nice & friendly train officer. Definitely a unforgettable experience!
