A lovely assortment of little shops and cafes

I just love wondering around the Main Street of Maldon discovering new little shops and cafes, a nice way to spend an afternoon with friends.

The streetscape of Maldon is amazing. It remains untouched by modern architecture, with all shops retaining their original gold rush era facades. There are no chain stores here, just good old fashioned owner operated stores. A must visit for anyone who loves history, antiques or boutique little stores. It's easy to lose an hour or two wandering about in this... More

It's a lovely street for an amble - we loved the linen shop in particular (excellent value). They're the type of shops where you get talking to the owner, and sit for 20 minutes cuddling the friendly dog. Talking of which, there are a couple of excellent pet shops. We enjoyed coffee at the Maldon Cafe, which seemed popular with... More

Walking in the centre of small town Maldon likes winding back the history. Old houses and buildings, art deco styles, old style veranda, names of the shops, the quietness and and the feeling of an old township floating in the air. It is a small but unique town, the end destination of VGR train excursion, where passengers spend nearly 2... More

If you have ever wondered what Australia was like 150 years ago just take a leisurely stroll through this historic precinct. It is not at all difficult to picture yourself in the gold rush days

Maldon is a delight to visit, even on the hottest of days thanks to its generous verandahs. It's one of my favourite Victorian country towns and is well worth a day trip from Melbourne or from Bendigo.

It was such a privilege to visit Maldon with its original and stately buildings. No Macca, no big supermarkets and no Bunning. The result is lots of small businesses doing well. Terrific range of store

Written by my granddaughter: "I enjoyed going to Maldon because there was interesting history about the gold rush and lots of education through that history. I also enjoyed all the different shops on Main Street. Favourites for my family's visit (children aged 8 to 11) were Lolly Shop and Teddy and Me."

While this is a rather touristy town, it is done well for the most part. Once you got past the places that sold food and sweets, there were some really interesting shops. The housewares shop (sorry, forgotten the name) had some very good ranges of tools and brushes for all sorts of odd jobs. I used to be a travelling... More

Some lovely interesting shops exist in the main street, including some vendors stocking linens, local produce, art & craft
