Belle Meade Plantation is a non-profit historic site located in Nashville, TN. Established in 1807, Belle Meade was revered as the greatest thoroughbred stud farm in the United States. It was home to Iroquois, the first American bred horse to win the Epsom Derby and the great foundation sire,Bonnie Scotland, whose descendants include Secretariat, Seattle Slew, Native Dancer, Big Brown and California Chrome.

Belle Meade was owned and operated by the Harding-Jackson family for nearly a century from 1807 until 1906. Today their home is restored to its turn of the century appearance along with several original outbuildings.

Nice place and the tour was absolute worth it. The Guides know a lot of the history, just don't be shy to ask, if anything remains unclear. At the end of the tour - which is around $15, you can taste different wines. The Blackberry wine is nice!

Belle Meade Plantation is not only a worthy tourist site but a grand place for locals ! The carriage house makes a great place for special events. Visiting here will truly take one back in time and is well worth the visit. The gift shop and wine shop are also a must. You can plan to have lunch as well.... More

This was one of my favourite places I visited in the USA. I enjoyed learning the history of the family who lived there. A bit of peace and quiet in a bustling city.

If you read any of my other reviews, you'll notice I love historic homes. The Bellemeade Plantation really has their tour down to a science. My favorite part of the house, the foyer with the picture of their race horses--as a Kentuckian, I very much appreciated this. The grounds, barns, etc. were all beautiful. A must see if you are... Love historic old homes, was a little unhappy with the guided tour...guide too stiff for my taste, rooms were not well-lit, Gift Shop over-priced, as is the Harding restaurant there, best activity was wine tasting!

We visited here during Christmas season when Christmas trees representing various time periods were on display. This took us back to a time when horse racing was very profitable. The tour guide did a fantastic job of explaining how life was on this farm from the 1800's thru the mid 1900's. It was interesting that every horse that has raced... More

We really enjoyed visiting the Belle Meade. Full of history, equestrian history, antiques, good stories. Our tour guide was knowledgeable and dressed in mid Victorian. We went to a wine pairing in the stables that was fantastic. We love this place!

I think if you like history and have the extra time while visiting Nashville, it's worth a trip. I was in Nashville for a few days, so decided to drive from downtown to here (20 minutes). Our tourguide seemed very knowledgeable and passionate about the topic, spoke a lot about the history and different rooms of the homes and how... More
