Best time to view this falls is before evening. The setting sun faces this fall, making getting great photos a little difficult. There is also a nice small suspension bridge nearby to cross as well.

The falls were extremely beautiful. When my husband and I started our hike, it was fairly simple. When we got to the sign for the loop, we took it right and were extremely grateful. Partly because it was marked better than the signs going left, but also, it was much easier to traverse down to go under the falls than it would have been to go up. Although the hike wasn't easy, more like moderate, it was completely worth it. We were able to go underneath the falls and take the falls in from that stand point. I will attach some pictures, but the falls were absolutely astonishing. Of all the falls we went to visit in the area, this was by far the best experience and scenery.

The Piney Creek Falls are located in Fall Creek Falls State Park. On our two day trip to this amazing state park we visited all of the waterfalls and the golf course. The Piney Creek Falls can be observed from two observation points.

We started our morning at the Fall Creek Falls parking lot. After observing the Fall Creek Falls we took the loop road to Piney Creek Falls. There are some very breath taking over looks you can pull off of this one way loop road to observe the Piney Creek and tree lined cliffs. Upon getting to the Piney Creek observation point there is no true parking lot. But there is ample room to pull off of the road and park. There are two signs posted one says to Suspension Bridge and the other says Piney Creek Falls trail (or something to that affect). We first selected to go to the fun part (the suspension bridge). On the short hike to the suspension bridge there is a wonderful but small fenced area with a sign denoting the Piney Creek Falls. It is the closest view we had of the falls. It is somewhat tree impeded but still a nice view of the falls. The suspension bridge is fairly long and really has no impact on your visitation to the falls but we enjoyed crossing it and hiking down to the creek and around the lower creek area. Upon finishing our time on this end of the Piney Creek falls observation area we took the other trail to the falls observation. This observation is located on a clear rock overlook. Again this was a short hike to the area. Both of these views of this waterfall allowed for different perspectives on this amazing natural wonder.

These falls were observed from the greatest distance of any of the falls in the park. They were both worthy stops when in the park. They can be observed by most people although strollers and wheel chairs will be difficult to make the journey to these observation points.

Plan your trip according to the time of year/ amount of rainfall if you want to see the falls themselves. Our trip coincided w a drought and there was no visible water at these falls from the overlook.

The hike and view was still nice. There are some elevation changes, so if you have already done several challenging hikes that day just be prepared for this. Note: we were able to spot some raptors from the overlook.

First of all, let me clear up some confusion. These Piney Falls are located in Fall Creek Falls State Park on Piney Creek, about a two mile drive on the loop road from Fall Creek Falls on Cane Creek. These falls are not as high but I think they are even more scenic. The tortured geography of the Cumberland Plateau is difficult enough to understand without duplicated place names, but that has happened here and has even confused tripadvisor reviewers. About 50 miles east as the crow flies (much longer as the car drives) is a different Piney Falls, located in Piney Falls State Natural area. (see listing). There are two sets of falls in that park, upper and lower Piney Falls. Back to this Piney Falls, there is not a formal parking lot but plenty of room to pull off on the side of the road. There are two trails here and you should watch children and animals carefully on both. Neither can be used by strollers or wheelchairs..One is an easy one tenth of a mile hike along a ridge to an overlook for the falls. The other is a bit longer, a quarter mile down to one of the two swinging bridges in the state park ( the other is above Cane Creek Falls, yet another major waterfall). Although you cannot see the falls from the swinging bridge, you get a glimpse of the falls at a dramatic drop along the bridge trail (with fencing and a warning not to go off trail). A word of warning to all couples out there- do not purposely bounce the bridge if your spouse tells you not to, or some not-so-nice words might drown out the roar of the water. From the far side of the bridge, an overnight trail extends into the far reaches of the park. We did not have a permit or the time to do that, but we did go down to the stream under the bridge to get some good pictures. Do not wade or swim, as the big drop is just around the corner. The power of the falls at full strength was evident from the overlook where we could see good sized downed trees and half of a red kayak smashed into the side of the cliff probably 30 feet from the ground.

The crazy Tennessee Christmas time weather (warm and sunny) sent me outdoors. Growing up I saw the signs, but never stopped. This natural area is located on Hwy 68 between Crossville and Spring City, TN., respectively.

If you are looking for an easy hike (about a mile) to not one but TWO falls I recommend Piney Falls. Please be advised that some of the ledges are slick and giveway. Thank God for those little trees that have deep roots as it was the only grab on to as I was sliding towards the gorge.

There is a path to the bottom of the upper falls. Its amazing! You can walk behind the falls and not get wet. Heck... You could drive a truck behind the falls if you get one down there.

Cheers

Piney Falls State Natural Area is a protected area near Grandview, just north of Spring City. (Note that Piney Creek Falls is a different waterfall, located in Fall Creek Falls State Park near Pikeville.) The protected area preserves a stretch of Little Piney Creek with two significant waterfalls. The trail starts at the parking lot and in about a half-mile, there is a split. Right goes to the top of Upper Piney Falls. It's possible to rock-hop the creek and loop around to the base, but the water level was too high when we visited. A slip off an 80-foot waterfall would not end well. So instead, we went left at the intersection and in a short ways came to another split (with a sign). To the left, leads down to the top of Lower Piney Falls. It's a 40-foot waterfall, but there's no good way to see it from the top. My wife and I explored a bit, but couldn't find any way to get down to the base - the surrounding cliffs were just too steep. I think you would need ropes to get down. Back at the second split, we went right and followed the creek upstream to the base of Upper Piney Falls. This 80-foot waterfall is very impressive. You can walk behind the waterfall and meet up with the trail that came down from the base. It was really wet with spray so we didn't bother. I'd like to return and try to get to the base of Lower Piney Falls, but even without doing that, this is a great spot for a short hike (total distance is about 2 miles) to see two nice waterfalls.

Piney Creek Falls is the third waterfall we visited on a recent trip to Fall Creek Falls State Park. It is probably the least visited and certainly the least accessible of the waterfalls found in the park. It is located at the end of a scenic view loop road and has a very small parking area. One trail leads to a suspension bridge and another very short trail leads to a large rock formation that serves as an overlook to the falls. The falls are quite a ways away from the overlook and are surrounded by the forest. It doesn't take long to get to the area and there isn't a lot of things to do once you arrive but we enjoyed seeing Piney Creek Falls and would recommend it to anyone visiting this wonderful state park.

We enjoyed this more than Fall Creek Falls. Piney creek falls are vigorous but hard to see in their entirety. The suspension bridge is lots of fun but you can’t see the falls from there. Still worth checking out.
