We really enjoyed this drive. The views of the mountains are amazing and if you are interested in geology (like me), you will have plenty of roadcuts that provided great examples of different formations.

At sunrise, in the first parking area from Townsend is a classic view of the fog rising in the Smoky Mountains with a colorful sky (weather dependent) backdrop. Arrive early as many photograph this stunning view.

What a beautiful drive! The views and change of color of the trees was so worth it! The area was quite, roads clean, turnoffs available if you wanted to look more at the scenery!

We never miss the chance to drive this Parkway. It's a beautiful road, & when the leaves are changing, it's nice to pull off & enjoy the views. But, don't be in a hurry. Take the time to walk to Look Rock Tower as well.

We didn't know much about the foothills parkway but decided to try it. Its wider than the park road and has plenty of curves and overlooks to make things interesting. At the peak is Look Tower - call it a mini Clingman's Dome. A short...More

If you're going to or through Tennessee, you should definitely add this to your route especially in Autumn. The canopy of color cannot be beat!

There are a few motels in Townsend, TN, which is just minutes from the Parkway and minutes from the entrance to the National Park. We can also highly recommend renting a cabin with Dogwood Cabins in Townsend!

dme 12373, I think you will be good to go. Early Feb is one of the few times of the year there is much less traffic. The locals enjoy the "quiet.". Kind of surprised you are coming so early in the year. If you wait until... More
