Frio Cave is home to an estimated 10-12 million Mexican Free Tailed Bats. On scheduled evenings, from March thru September, guests meet with a guide who explains about the history of Frio Cave and the bats that call it home. Then, standing near the cave opening, they watch the bats fly out over their heads. Most evenings various birds of prey fly in to feast on the bats on the wing. Guest enjoy a Hill Country sunset as the streams of bats ribbon away into the distance. Tours end at dark.

This was my second visit and I think it was more amazing than my first. The best bat flight I've ever seen. The closest I've been able to get as they come out of the cave. You can hear and feel the bats at they...More

This was a really unique experience. Easy directions to get to the front gate and meet the folks that run it. It was a nice drive back through a South Texas ranch and, once we parked, a pleasant walk up a hill to the cave....More

My husband and I loved the bat flight! He became a bit antsy waiting but the bats came out right about 8 pm. It was magical! The guide was also very informative. I highly recommend this activity!

Now it was very hot but what can you expect with a Texas summer. I would highly recommend this for all ages, there were thousands and thousands of bats & the tour guides are highly educated in the bats & their life style. While we...More

We were in Austin for a few days with two bat activities planned, this one and the Congress Street Bridge. We did the bridge first and though it was impressive, it did not even come close to what we experienced at Frio! The first wave...More

Bats came out early - in full daylight. I've never seen anything like it. Probably one of the coolest nature experiences I've had. Strongly recommend!

It was a wonderful unique experience! The bats were coming out of their cave promptly at 7PM and most were out about 45 minutes later.

We were able to make arrangements ahead of time to see this phenomenon by paying the minimum cost ($120) even though a bat tour wasn't originally planned for a midweek April night. Even though the web site directions guide you to a gate on private...More

The guide meets you at the entrance to the property and the cars drive in as a caravan for about 3 miles to the actual viewing area. I think it is worthwhile mentioning that there are no bathroom facilities. Once the bats start coming out...More

My family loved the Frio Bat Tour. It's a great opportunity to get close to millions of bats as they leave their cave each night. Plus the view from the hill top of this remote Hill Country spot was gorgeous. We took the whole family,...More

I haven't seen dogs either time I've been there. I'm sure you can easily find the answer on their website, or just give them a call.
