Description:

The Duchman Family Winery was founded in 2004 by Drs. Lisa and Stan Duchman in a quest to bring world-class winemaking to Central Texas and the Texas Hill Country. Their love of the unique Italian grape varieties as well as similar weather patterns to Texas inspired them to work with viticultural consultant Bobby Cox and growers in the Texas High Planes AVA to produce grapes that would allow their winemakers, Dave Reilly and Mark Penna, to experiment with making wines like Vermentino, Sangiovese, and Dolcetto. The winery continues to source the majority of its fruit from the Texas High Plains AVA, where cooler temperatures and a more “continental” climate are ideal for the production of fine wine made from Italian grape varieties. As the winery grows, the Duchmans remain committed to their goal to produce food-friendly fine wine in Central Texas using Texas-grown fruit exclusively. With an eye on the future, Duchman Family Winery continues to develop innovative winemaking and grape growing techniques in order to provide wine that truly reflects a taste of Texas for years to come.Duchman Family Winery remains one of the top wine destinations in Texas. All of the winery’s current releases can be sampled and purchased at the winery’s tasting room and the estate’s beautiful Italianate villa and grounds are open to visitors who can enjoy their wines with a picnic lunch! We have picnic tables outdoors in the shade of the oaks, or pick a cozy spot inside the winery hallway with a windowed view into the barrel room, fermentation tank, or production area for bottling and labeling of our wines.

This is a really nice place to get away for a low-key wine experience. You have to arrange a tour ahead of time but the tasting room is open most of the day. The staff is knowledgeable and friendly. The wines are interesting, (we bought two bottles). The grounds are great, with picnic tables under the oaks. You can purchase... More

We stopped after dinner to stroll around as the sunset and sample the wines. Great service in the tasting room from knowledgeable staff. After a few samples, we each picked our favorite and walked around the outside as the sun set. Terrific way to end the evening.

Went here with friends on recommendations from others. The facility and surrounding area are gorgeous. The staff were friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable. Esposa and I each did a tasting, splitting evenly between the 11 wines. Unfortunately, we found a fair number these wines overly simplistic and not on par with other wines in the area. A fair number of our... More

We got here around noon on a Saturday, tasting room was already packed. The acoustics were horrible in the tasting room, hard to hear everything. Red wines were good, one of the whites literally was like water - zero flavor. Was a beautiful day outside, would have been a much more enjoyable experience if they dispersed the tasting area so... We stopped here before heading out to dinner. The outside is very shady, there are places to sit, and if you have kids along, there was bean bag toss and yard jenga to keep them busy. The white I had was crisp and refreshing, and my friend had the red blend which was fruity and dry. Perfect for sitting outside... More

A great out of the way experience. A winery where you can enjoy a tasting or actually enjoy a favorite wine with family and friends. It is a beautiful setting and the staff is friendly, courteous and efficient. They will inform you of the different wines and serve you with a smile. The adjacent restaurant serves wonderful Italian entrée food.... More

Great place to have a glass of wine and sit outside. They have a good variety, but it does get busy. Staff is always nice and prices are good. The scenery feels like you are in Tuscany, almost :) Good place to take couples and they have a playground for kids too.

Great to visit for a tasting, they also have a membership program which includes a good discount on all wine and vintner's selection every quarter. As a member you also get a free glass of wine every visit, which could be regularly if you are semi-local. Nice setting and picnic tables to have a picnic. There is also food available... More
