The ocean was great, big waves. We visited in late May and there was some kind of seaweed covering the beach and floating in the water. I understand it happens every year. We dealt with it, but would have had a better time had it...More

Nice walk, either on the beach or up on the sidewalks. Water was a little on the brown side; something I am not used to here in New England. Loved it! Stayed across the street at Casa Del Mar. perfect condo.

As other reviews have stated, this isn't the clear/blue waters of the Gulf nor are the beaches white. However, Galveston has invested millions of dollars into their beach and brought in tons upon tons of sand that make the shoreline very nice. There are umbrellas...More

Have loved Galveston's sea wall since the late 1940's. The water looks gray and dirty. As a child I swam there; not so in my seventies. Prefer the beauty of the Mexican coastline. But walk along the sea wall; think about when Galveston had gambling....More

The seawall is a paved walk way that you can ride a bike, walk, jog or stroll, to restaurants, hotels, gifts shops, and of course the beach.

It is a relaxing beach and enjoyable, a little bit dirty but still great to have a weekend there to spend time with family

For people how have never seen the ocean, this is a great opportunity to do so. There are lots of bars and restaurants and hotels to stay at in this area. If you are used to beaches on the west coast you will not be...More

The seawall is a long line of beach in Galveston that has some breath taking views as well as free beach access! It can sometimes be over ran with seaweed but it's not as bad as some people claim it to be. Really warm water...More

Our hotel was right across the street so it was only a 3 min walk to get to the beach which was super nice. As far as the ocean itself goes, the waves were amazing and it wasn't crowded. A+ in my book!

Travel west past the "touristy" part of Galveston Island Beach about two miles. When you start seeing colorful condos and beach houses, turn left into any of the multiple beach access points. You can drive out on the beach and have a bit more privacy.

If you can see the lights of the pleasure pier you should have a pretty good view of the fireworks too
Can someone tell me how the seaweed is looking this year? Our vacation in Galveston a couple of years ago was pretty much ruined due to huge amounts of stinky seaweed on the beach in front of our condo. I don't want to spend the money going to Galveston if the seaweed is bad again!

It is fine this year. That year is was bad almost everywhere in the Caribbean. You can google the seaweed that year and it was so bad! I had a friend leave PR because of it! I run the seawall 3 times a week and this year I... More
Is the sea wall sidewalk ok for rollerblading?

Rollerblading along the south end of the seawall would be much safer for you and others vs. the north end. The north end is much more crowded - more shops, more restaurants, more people. There are people walking across... More
