Seawolf Park and the American Undersea Warfare Center provides a wonderful scenic view of Pelican Island, the Port of Galveston, and the surrounding waterways. At the tip of the island, Seawolf park offers the best on- and off-shore fishing in the area, picnic tables and playgrounds, and basketball and volleyball courts. The American Undersea Warfare Center is home to two historic WWII vessels; the USS Cavalla attack submarine, and the USS Stewart Destroyer Escort. Touring the two available watercrafts at Seawolf Park was an amazing look into the size these amazing people had to work in for months at a time. Thank you for preserving these historical crafts.

pcox0029, thank you for visiting Seawolf Park and the American Undersea Warfare Center. With over 60 submariners serving inside the USS Cavalla and 210 sailors on board the USS Stewart, it did get cozy! They were extraordinary warriors that fought during WWII. Please come back again soon. More

I wasn't really excited about going to Seawolf Park but my husband wanted to so we went. It was a lot more interesting than I expected. It's really neat to see how people on the submarine and ship lived and worked. I would recommend checking it out when in Galveston. You can also fish and picnic at the park, they... More

Mandy, thank you for visiting Seawolf Park and the American Undersea Warfare Center with your husband. It is a unique experience walking through the compartments of an actual heroic WWII submarine. Please note that we have added a soda machine and a water fridge at the entrance area for those hot summer days. Please come back soon! More

There is a submarine and a huge battleship that you can tour by yourself. Absolutely make sure that you wear tennis shoes as there is a lot of climbing and crouching to get into areas as well as the ships are all metal and can be s little slippery. Make sure you are up for a workout though cause some... More

Tami, Thank you for visiting and your great advise to other visitors. These are two actual, WWII fighting vessels; warriors and heroes both. But they can be rough and rugged...but we've had great visitors of all ages make the tour and enjoy every minute of it; listening to 1940s music as they traverse the portals, reading signage or listening to... We went here at Christmas time. There was so many families having picnics and fishing. We went to tour the submarine and ship. Very economical activity. Enjoyed walking around in the beautiful weather. Were lucky enough to watch a cruise ship come in to port. My only regret I didn't put on bug spray lots of mosquitoes. So pack bug... More

Brenda, Thank you for visiting the Seawolf Park and the American Undersea Warfare Center. I hope you had a lovely Christmas visit to Galveston. One of my favorite times of the week is when the huge cruise ships pass close by. It is a sight to behold! Yes, the skeeters can get rambunctious at times as we are surrounded by... More

Being a Cold War submariner, my wife suggested we go to Seawolf Park when we were in Galveston. I was glad that she did. Touring both the "skimmer" and diesel boat really took me back. Looking at the dive station, I know that I could dive that boat if she were going on patrol! My family (and others) listened as... More

Interesting and gives you a chance to go into a submarine. Easy to find because it is at the end of the main road on Pelican Island.

Exptraveller2014, thanks for visiting the American Undersea Warfare Center at Seawolf Park. It is a long road to Seawolf Park but well worth the drive! Most people can not say that they have been inside a US Navy submarine! It is a great adventure and provides a good insight to what Navy life was like 70+ years ago. Hope to... More

I really liked the idea you toured it on your own. Stay a little or stay a long time, go at your own pace and you are able to read and look at the pictures. It is clean and safe and guarded and a really over all nice area.

Not an abundance of shade in the park and the ships themselves are not well ventilated or cooled. However, on a cooler day, this is a fun activity.

Spent the afternoon with the family. $6 for a car to access the park. Views were great. The playground structure is great (although the best one in Galveston is by Schlitterban Waterpark across from the elementary school) You can see dolphins, people fishing off of the pier, the ferries, ships heading to and from sea and a ship wreck.
