This theater is absolutely beautiful, excellent five star performers to enjoy year round! Dress is casual during the day, a bit more dressy in the evening, however I will say in the winter local Texans do tend to dress up for the evening!

For those visiting Galveston... consider catching a performance at Galveston's 1894 Opera House. This is a beautiful, historic venue that provides an intimate experience with the performers that just isn't available in most performance venues.

Had center seats near the back. Regardless, REK was close enough I could see him sweating! Great venue! Check out Rudy and Paco's or 901 for dinner. Usually artist's head over to 21 across the street after a show.

We thoroughly enjoyed this performance by a talented group of singers, dancers, and musicians from Ireland. As always the Grand 1894 Opera House is a wonderful place to enjoy a show after a dinner and stroll on Post Office Street.

This is the third or fourth show we have seen at the Grand 1894 Opera House. Normally we will sit in the mezzanine, but we were able to get seats in Orchestra with really nice views of the stage and performance. An extremely nice place to see a live performance.

Every time I engage the Opera House, it's a disappointing experience right up until I see what I bought tickets for...then it becomes worth it. The venue has some tight seating. I would have preferred wider seats and fewer of them but it's not that bad. What is terrible is EVERYTHING before you take your seat. First the website. Good luck figuring it out and if you're trying to buy tickets the day something goes on sale, you may do better to go to the box office. That is until you encounter the people who work there. I'm sure they are nice people and I'm almost as sure they are doing their best but, wow, never; not once have I had a smooth progression through the person trying desperately to scan my printed ticket. Never; not once have I had a pleasant experience with the elevator that carries only 6 or 7 people (I forget). The confines are so tight that the sign has the # of people it can carry (including the operator). I would imagine if the operator's surly attitude was removed from the equation, it could carry dozens more.
Still, the venue is beautiful. We went to see Wynona when she was in Galveston and during the ballads, the experience was great. When she cut loose with heavy tracks; her voice was overcome by the sound too often. Minor discomfort for a great musical experience.
I understand most who work there are volunteers. I would hope that they could hire some people more committed to guests experience and charge a bit more for the tickets and get a modern elevator.
I'll be back but I have moderated my expectations.

All of us at The Grand work diligently to provide our patrons with the best experience possible, from their first contact with us till the final bow. At the same time, we also appreciate hearing from those who haven’t had the best experience as it’s the only way we can work to improve. It helps particularly when we can get as much information as possible, so in these comments, we would benefit from a conversation about what our website can do to make things easier or more efficient.
Our IT and box office staff can help facilitate that conversation. As for the scanning of tickets, we know that getting a thousand people into the theatre, all of whom arrive about the same time, is a challenge. We are already working on a solution to scanning at this time and hope that it will prove to be smoother and quicker.
The Grand’s elevator was added to the building in 1985, when major renovation work was done. As you can guess, putting a modern elevator into an older building that is landlocked is not simple. There is little space with which to work and our only solution was to have something that carries a maximum of seven people at a time. Our regular volunteer who staffs it is a charming man who has a smile for everyone. I am beyond surprised at your description of him as he regularly gets high praise for his friendliness and helpfulness. If this was a different person, I will certainly find that out and address it accordingly. Again, my thanks for your review and I hope to see you at The Grand again when we can perhaps meet in person. (submitted by Maureen Patton, Executive Director)

Bill Engvall kept us in stiches through his whole performance. The Grand is a great venue for music or comedy.

For an island our size we are truly lucky to have such a great venue where there are no bad seats. And one that gets such amazing shows. I always enjoy going to an event at The Grand.

My family is having a Roaring 20s theme family reunion around June 1 - June 3 and I would like to know if we can visit the opera house and take photos.
Written January 12, 2019
I don't have our schedule at my fingertips - but unless we have a show going on when you are visiting, it shouldn't be a problem for you to take photos. Please call us at 800-821-1894 and we can double check the dates with you.

I have a broken leg and a boot and need to use a walker to offer some support to my leg. Where are the restrooms and if not on first floor is there an elevator?
Written October 27, 2018
I do not remember any stairs or elevators--it is a "walk in" place.

I've seen folks in ball caps and shorts seated next someone in a suit. It's been pretty casual every time I've been there. I usually wear nice jeans/slacks and a button up shirt and no ones tried to throw me out yet.

Can you wear shorts and a baseball cap to the Ronnie Milsap concert tomorrow night?
Written September 15, 2017
You can dress any way you feel like. Yes to shorts and a baseball cap. I personally would not ware a baseball cap an event like this.
Written September 16, 2017
What is proper dress for the show tomorrow night? Jeans and a button up shirt, OK?
Written April 29, 2017
Whoops - sorry, this question slipped through the cracks... I hope you enjoyed the show, and yes, jeans and shirt is fine for any of our performances!

What kind of parking is available for concerts at the Grand?
Written April 26, 2017
We don't have our own parking lot, so customers should utilize area paid parking lots. There is a large pay lot directly behind the theatre at 21st and Market streets, a parking garage also on Market at 21st on Northwest corner, a small pay parking lot across Postoffice Street (corner of 21st and Postoffice) and then there is street meter parking (meter ends at 6pm, so free in those spaces after that time). Additionally their are privately owned lots around downtown. Hope this helps!
