Some nice views from the top but the price can be prohibitive (it is cheaper to book online but it can be also be an annoying process providing details for each guest). The gondola was clean and fresh. The bathrooms were hidden out of the way. We did the hike to Hawley Lake at the top which was okay. You can rent Kayaks to use on the lake but you have to do that before going up the gondola. We had an okay time but don’t feel too bad if you have to skip this because of cost, you can see just as nice views from the out looks around Cabot Trail or off some of the hiking trails.

We went on a foggy day so I can’t say how the view is on a nice day but the trail is not very well maintained. Very little markings. We only went to the first look out because the weather wasn’t the greatest and we didn’t feel super confident in continuing the hike.

The ride through here was gorgeous and memorable. For the best views I would recommend the gondola ride. It will take you to a fantastic viewing area where you can have a picnic. You have the choice of hiking down the hill or taking the gondola down ...this 66 year old took the gondola.

We loved Cape Smokey, but were concerned about a long hike. Fortunately, just a few hundred feet down the path we noticed a sign with 3 stick figures. Two hikers came up and told us that we could discover GREAT views, if we took the path straight down, and then traveled the other path to the right. Right on!

We did, indeed, see magnificent ocean views, peering 900 feet down to the sea--protected by a strategically placed chain-link fence. Fabulous! And sure enough, great views on the other path, too. Thus, a 7+/- hike was a 1 hour stop, just about 20 minutes before officially entering Cape Breton Highlands National Park

The place indeed is very beautiful, however the people saying that the road is dangerous either must be joking or have simply never driving on a winding road. it may be dangerous to a novice driver or perhaps on a densely foggy day. its a fun easy drive.

The scenes are absolutely gorgeous! I have compared this to the lakes in Ontario and there is something very special and different about this area. The holes are fabulous and it's a photographers heaven. A Must see!!

Why take a walk to another waterfall or to the top of another mountain when you can enjoy a wonderful walk along the coastline to a lookout over the Keltic Lodge and Middle Head trail?

This under-publicized park and trail are much better than many of the other so called hikes listed in the tourist information, which are really no more than walks to a point of interest. This nice pull off has great view of the coastline but even better is the 6 mile round trip through the woods and to the aforementioned lookout. Along the way, there are five or six side trails to lookouts along the bluffs with benches so you can enjoy the view to your hearts content. If you're not up to the six mile hike, just walk for half an hour or so and enjoy the views, then turn back.

Because the trail isn't used that much, you may want to wear long pants or gaiters. The first section wasn't too overgrown, but the latter section was.

And the end of the trail is such a delight. The view is fantastic and well worth the time spent to get there. Bring a snack, lunch, or drink and enjoy a rest. If you're lucky, you'll be the only one there. Other than the Skyline Trail, this is the best hike on the island.

We are newbies to the cabot trail and this took our breath away. A little scary driving up initially!

Cape Smokey is breathtaking. The road is full of twists and turns and is very steep, take your time and enjoy the scenery around you. You are surrounded by woods and ocean and all of natures beauty.
Take the time to stop at the look offs that are throughout the area, it gives you a chance to really take it all in.
