Bayou Bend is the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston's house museum for American decorative arts and paintings. Displayed in the former home of Houston civic leader and philanthropist Ima Hogg (1882-1975), the collection is one of the finest showcases of American furnishings, silver, ceramics, and paintings in the world. The house is situated on 14 acres of organically maintained gardens in Houston's historic River Oaks neighborhood.

It had been 20 years or so since my last visit. The gardens were damaged by the flood but it is clear much work has been done. I missed the azalea bloom and was disappointed how little color was in the gardens. Houston has a...More

Pick a beautiful spring or fall day. Walking the grounds will take you back to an earlier time in Houston and you will gain an appreciation for someone who had the vision to gather up early American furnishings and provide the perfect setting to house...More

Lovely home donated by the Hogg family with beautiful art work and furniture and tours hosted by knowledgeable guides. We were shocked at the quality and the names of the major artists of the works in the house.

A great place to revisit a portion of Houston’s history. A wonderful garden to stroll. They put tighter quite a show during the holidays. A MUST.

The house, built by Ima Hogg, is arranged so that a different era of history is depicted in each room. So it gives you an idea of how furnishings for a well-off family would have been in that timeframe. We took a self-guided tour and...More
