Bayou Bend is the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston's house museum for American decorative arts and paintings. Displayed in the former home of Houston civic leader and philanthropist Ima Hogg (1882-1975), the collection is one of the finest showcases of American furnishings, silver, ceramics, and paintings in the world. The house is situated on 14 acres of organically maintained gardens in Houston's historic River Oaks neighborhood.

This former home if Ima Hogg turned museum was beautiful. The grounds were impeccable and very well maintained. One would never have guessed this was in the middle of one of the largest cities in the United States. Definitely worth the trip.

This is the Ima Hogg estate. It is furnished with American antiques, textiles, and artwork. You can self-tour with a booklet, schedule with a docent, or self-tour with a smartphone app. We went after Thanksgiving. It was very interesting. The gardens were beautiful, as well. It's located in the tony River Oaks area of Houston. They were just beginning to... More

This was a wonderful surprise. Miss Ima Hogg was an amazing collector of American antiques fueled by a great deal of oil money. The house is filled with fantastic finds she collected from all over the USA. We had a most interesting tour guide who added her own extensive knowledge to the experience of the house visit. The gardens are... More

We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to Bayou Bend, it is a fabulous house with so many beautiful things to see. We did the 1 hour tour, but wished we'd chosen the 1 1/2 hour instead. The tour guide was very very good, she knew so much about it all. The house is just beautiful filled with art and history, set... More

Impressive home, many period collections and gardens. Very knowledgeable docents. Lighted grounds at night. Short walk from parking lot to house.

We have been going here every spring and even over the Christmas season when the house is decorated and they have carolers and various other type of holiday entertainment. From the minute you leave the parking lot you are immersed in a beautiful experience. You walk across a gorgeous hanging bridge on your way to the entrance. I don't think... More

There's a saying that in the land of the blind, the one-eyed man is king. That essentially sums up the problem with Bayou Bend. It was established by a provincial doyenne to bring good taste to her cow town cohorts. Unfortunately, there's a lingering smell of condescension and while the museum takes great pains to stress that the house is... More

My family went during the spring. It was a lovely day surrounded by all of these native TX flowers and shrubs. I go back every year now.

Ms Hogg's former home is now a showcase of her American art and furnishings collection with each room filled with art of different periods. We had an excellent docent tour ( you are not allowed to roam on your own). Enjoyed hearing about Miss Hogg's personality and all the contributions she made to the cultural life of Houston.
