Bayou Bend is the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston's house museum for American decorative arts and paintings. Displayed in the former home of Houston civic leader and philanthropist Ima Hogg (1882-1975), the collection is one of the finest showcases of American furnishings, silver, ceramics, and paintings in the world. The house is situated on 14 acres of organically maintained gardens in Houston's historic River Oaks neighborhood.

This is a fabulous look at Southern life a hundred years ago, at least one with lots of money to underwrite it. The mansion is small compared to typical plantation-style homes but quite large for city standards. The pieces are interesting and set in accurate period rooms. Furniture, sculpture and art tastefully exhibited. The gardens are the real seller. Go in... More

This is the second year we have visited Bayou Bend's Christmas Village & it was fantastic. We were able to park very close to the venue for $10.00. There is free parking in the parking garage but you will have a short walk. If you have small kids, you will want a stroller to make that walk. You will enter... More

After reading about the Bayou Bend Christmas Village we decided to check it out - I have been multiple times for the Azelea Trail in the Spring and it has always been beautiful. However, seeing the gardens and home at night is just magical. The gardens are transformed by thousands of brightly colored lights. The home tour is $5 extra,... More

This former home if Ima Hogg turned museum was beautiful. The grounds were impeccable and very well maintained. One would never have guessed this was in the middle of one of the largest cities in the United States. Definitely worth the trip.

This is the Ima Hogg estate. It is furnished with American antiques, textiles, and artwork. You can self-tour with a booklet, schedule with a docent, or self-tour with a smartphone app. We went after Thanksgiving. It was very interesting. The gardens were beautiful, as well. It's located in the tony River Oaks area of Houston. They were just beginning to... More

This was a wonderful surprise. Miss Ima Hogg was an amazing collector of American antiques fueled by a great deal of oil money. The house is filled with fantastic finds she collected from all over the USA. We had a most interesting tour guide who added her own extensive knowledge to the experience of the house visit. The gardens are... More

We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to Bayou Bend, it is a fabulous house with so many beautiful things to see. We did the 1 hour tour, but wished we'd chosen the 1 1/2 hour instead. The tour guide was very very good, she knew so much about it all. The house is just beautiful filled with art and history, set... More

We have been going here every spring and even over the Christmas season when the house is decorated and they have carolers and various other type of holiday entertainment. From the minute you leave the parking lot you are immersed in a beautiful experience. You walk across a gorgeous hanging bridge on your way to the entrance. I don't think... More
