Bayou Bend is the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston's house museum for American decorative arts and paintings. Displayed in the former home of Houston civic leader and philanthropist Ima Hogg (1882-1975), the collection is one of the finest showcases of American furnishings, silver, ceramics, and paintings in the world. The house is situated on 14 acres of organically maintained gardens in Houston's historic River Oaks neighborhood.

We really enjoyed our tour of the house and gardens. My husband doesn't usually like tours but this had so many charming details that we all had a good time.

Very interesting museum. It covers furniture and artwork from different eras of US history. We opted for the longer tour and it was worth the slightly higher cost. The gardens were very nice.

This place is magical and tour was very informative and interactive. On sunny day you can enjoy outdoor gardens and on winter days there is amazing collection inside the house.

We enjoyed our stroll around these beautiful grounds on a sunny Sunday afternoon. The gardens, fountains, trees and paths on this estate are so inviting as are all of the well placed benches and other spots for observation and contemplation.

One of my overall best places to visit is Bayou Bend. Depending on my particular disposition at the moment, I enter the hallowed halls of the collection and let the late Southern sensation wash over me. The fragrance, the look, the temptation to touch, all over whelm whatever is foremost in my mind. I think of the multi-petticoated ladies -... More

Spring is a great time to visit Bayou Bend. The location is gorgeous, and the house-museum's staff is knowledgeable and pleasant. Family activities are planned year-round.

Interesting house with one of the best collection of early american furnature in existance. House and grounds are worth a visit even if you are not interested in furnature, silver, and place settings. Ample parking at least during the week and check to see if they are having any special exhibits or lectures.

Having lived in Houston for over fifty years, this was my first trip to Bayou Bend. Now, I ask myself, why did I wait? There are two attractions at Bayou Bend. One if the amazing home, with museum quality art (part of Museum of Fine Arts), moreover the collection of furniture on display. Take your time on this tour of... More
