Houston Center for Contemporary Craft (HCCC) is a nonprofit arts organization founded to advance education about the process, product and history of craft. HCCC serves as an important cultural and educational resource for Houston and the Southwest-one of the few venues in the country dedicated exclusively to craft at the highest level. The organization provides exhibition, sales and studio spaces to support the work of local and national artists and offers mission-related educational programs in schools and underserved communities. HCCC is funded in part by grants from The Brown Foundation; Houston Endowment, Inc.; the City of Houston through the Houston Arts Alliance; Texas Commission on the Arts; the National Endowment for the Arts; the Kinder Foundation; the Morgan Foundation; Windgate Charitable Foundation; and the Wortham Foundation.

We went for a quick visit with some out of town relatives and we all enjoyed our brief visit. Various exhibits that change with the resident artists.

My friends took me here when I visited Houston. I was blown away by the variety and skill of the exhibits. I was very happy that they shared this with me.

This is another of my favorite small museums. They have what looks to be a fun social event every Thursday evening and family friendly events on the weekends. Each exhibit I've seen here is full of interesting work. They have artist studios for their current resident artists on site that you can peek into.

The center is a good place for a short stop anytime - they have a small exhibit hall, shop and working artists. However, the best time to go is their monthly Hands On Houston activity. The medium varies each month but my kids have consistently enjoyed them and it is good to be exposed to a variety of activities.

The Houston Center for Contemporaty Craft is one of a kind place. Located on the Museum District, offers an interesting array of art, and their shop is awesome, always displays great pieces of art, jewelry, scarfs, beautiful gifts! And it is free to visit!

This is near the museum district, but is kind of off the radar of many people. Look it up and give them a visit. That exhibits change several times a year, and are always excellent.

Some lovely exhibitions of all sorts of crafts ranging from ceramics to glass to paper. Many local artists are featured. The gift ship is nice as well.

There are always wonderfully creative exhibits, several special events, artists in residence, an exciting gift shop and even a Weavers' Garden. I have never had any of the docents make me feel uncomfortable in all the years I've been there but I am sorry that happened to another reviewer. It is handy to know about the parking being in back as... More

Small but jam packed with terrific Art. Parking lot is behind the building with a small park along side this center. Exhibits change often and we were treated to displays of amazing pottery, sculpture, paintings and jewelry. The gift shop is a treasure trove of items - ideal for gifts and collections. The staff member manning this shop was extremely... More

So the person/artist stood watch over us while we where in the gallery. Literally like a guard watching our every move. We where the only people in the gallery( my mother, myself & my 2 teen daughters). She even followed us out checking the displays as if we would actually take something. Very disappointing & extremely uncomfortable.
