Nice Texas State Park, fairly close to Houston. Has some good trails, with a bit of very small hills. Fishing available. Camp sites are a good size. Close to Huntsville which as the Sam Houston Statue and a State Prison museum which make for good side trips. We did see an alligator in the lake this trip, a small one... More

Went to Huntsville park on a Saturday with the family to walk a trail and just enjoy the serene atmosphere. The park is idea for outdoor camping, fishing, biking and exploring trails. The place is well maintained, with awesome lake view. Will recommend this 1.5 hours trip from Houston.

I love the trails here and the park is so beautiful. I have walked them many times with my dog and biked one for the first time today. The one I did was 6.8 miles and goes around the entire lake. The trails are amateur friendly.

I spent Christmas camping right by the lake in Huntsville State Park. Cold (for texas), serene walks, beautiful winter woodland scenery. The park is easy to find just south of Huntsville on the southbound feeder road of Highway 45. Just when you get there the entrance is so low key I didn't think it was the entrance and had to... I used to get here only on weekends but recently retired and weekdays are my new escape from the world! The trail network is great and I use it to train up for the Bataan Marathon in NM each March. The trails are as short or long as you need--they interlock. If you hike, bike or run this park is... More

Big family fun. Horseback riding stables for a fee. Lots of walking trails. Plenty of bike riding space. Kayaking and canoeing a must. Swimming and barbequeing make for an inexpensive family vacation. Bring your dogs and your motor home.

We spent the day at the swimming beach with the kids. It only cost $5 for me and the kids 12 and under were free. It was not crowded and we were able to park close by. The first roped area is for toddlers/non swimmers and is only a couple feet deep. The 2nd area is roped off and goes... More

This has to be one of the TOP 10 BEST PARKS IN TEXAS! I love this place. I go TRAIL RUNNING frequently here. ALL of the trails are superb. My favorite is the Chinquapin Trail which is approximately 7 miles long around Lake Raven. This park has hiking, mountain biking, horse back riding, an EXCELLENT SWIMMING area, fishing, camping and... More

The campsites are spectacular. Easy access to restrooms and showers nearby as well as electricity at the campsite are so convenient. We camped out in a tent and had a difficult time sleeping only because all the sounds of the night life are splendid. They are a bit loud, though, so if you like to complain about trivial little things,... More

We tried to fish there in April with a small boat. The invasive plants were bad then, but now they seem to have taken over the park. Swimming area is closed, NO boats at all - we have never been there when there were NO boats, as the boat dock is also taken over with the plants. They had it... More
