Um... I don't want to be disrespectful of the dearly departed but we toured this cemetery after visiting the Grove. There is a lot of history in this place and after reading some of the local history and familiarizing ourselves with the names of notable people we had to take this trip. We found the grave of Mrs. Diamond Bessie... More

We stopped by to mainly see Diamond Bessie's grave but got caught up searching all the history. A very old grave with grave markers dating back to the 1870's, possibly earlier. It is very well maintained.

We couldn't figure out how to get in, but finally found an open gate. We drove around, got out of the car and walked around, and saw nothing of interest. Normally, we love old cemeteries but didn't see anything special about this one. I know it's a cemetery, but perhaps a guide to where the " interesting " markers were... More

We wanted a look at the history of Jefferson from the tombstone perspective. Lots of eloquent markers, lots of dreadful history, and lots of military markers that spoke of the wild nature during the reconstruction period after the civil war.

Beautifully maintained and hauntingly historic, we went to find Diamond Bessie's small fenced grave on a sunny October afternoon. We made gravestone rubbings with charcoal and sketch paper and drove all around, finding the veterans' area and many old monuments. We felt transported to a very different time among the not-so-recently departed.

Large cemetery with many headstones from the mid 1800's. Several famous Texas leaders and CW veterans.

It seems a bit strange to review a cemetery. However, since I'm a repeat visitor, it is appropriate I suppose. I was here for the same reason that others flock to this cemetery. To see Diamond Bessie's final resting place. There are markers and descriptions on a few of the gravesites to reveal a bit of history. Besides Diamond Bessie's... More
