The Museum of Western Art, formerly the Cowboy Artist of America Museum, is open daily 10:00 am to 4:00 pm except Sunday and Monday. It is a short drive from downtown Kerrville. The grounds are beautiful and a winding drive leads you to the entrance, where larger-than-life style western bronzes beckon picture takers. There are several galleries inside (allow 90 minutes to go through), showcasing artwork by craftsmen and women who devote their artistic career to preserving the legends of the American West. Young children will enjoy the Journey West Children's Gallery, a hands-on interpretive section of the old west. A small museum store sells prints and original art done by local artists along with other western memorabilia. An extensive western research library is on site as well. In addition there are several special art sales and exhibitions throughout the year. The Museum of Western Art is proud to be recipient of the 2015 Certificate of Excellence from Trip Advisor.

Totally enjoyed going through the galleries of this museum tucked away in Kerrville, TX. Knowledgeable docent was able to answer our questions about the history of the museum and the building architecture's amazing brick ceiling. The art is primarily 20th century paintings with a sprinkling of beautiful items including hand tooled saddles by well known makers, spurs, a red stage... More

What a nice spot up on the hill. Lots of pictures and bronze, really well done. Nice docent with lots of information. They are enlarging a section so go back to see what they have done.

I recently saw the exhibit Julian Onerdunk and the Texan Landscape in Houston and later In San Antonio. In both museums the staff told me that I should go to the museum in Kerrville. They were so right.

. This is an excellent museum for both adults and kids. The paintings are very impressive and high quality. The architecture of the place is quite unique (Egyptian domes). There is an area where kids can interact and wear western clothes, my Daughter had fun. We had the opportunity to meet face to face with an artist (sculptor) and that... More

This was better than expected. A small museum devoted to cowboy art and history. The docents are very knowledgeable of the history of the museum. By chance met a sculptor, Jason Scull, in the on-site studio. He graciously explained his works in progress and some of the processes from clay model to a finished sculpture. He could not have been nicer.Nice... More

A trip through the Hill Country of Texas should include this outstanding Museum of Western Art. The museum for Cowboy Artist of America has been in several locations, but now at home in Kerrville, TX. We did a round trip out of San Antonio to Bandera, Kerrville, Fredericksburg and Comfort on the back roads. Which was also a highlight.

There's also a hands-on feature for kids to learn about life on the prairie, complete with period-style clothing for them to try on for photos. Be sure to ask someone to tell you about the amazing brick ceiling... More

My husband and I had put this Museum on our list of things to go visit on our recent vacation, as we enjoy museums and galleries.
