My visit was focused on hiking. The park has several hiking trails of various lengths. The trails are flat with plenty of tree coverage and the surface is mostly dirt and pine needles. The Trinity Trail Trail meanders close to Lake Livingston and crosses some of the camp site areas. For those that prefer a paved hike, the Pineywoods Boardwalk offeres a more relax hike of just under a mile.

The park also has plenty of slips for campers, as well as fishing and swimming areas. The facilities were clean and well maintained. There is a park store, but it closes on Mondays and Tuesdays.

I have been to this park throughout most of my life and I'm never disappointed. Always clean, campsites are maintained, and a lake to have fun from the shore or out in it. What more do you need for a getaway destination?

Some Texas state parks look run down and out of date. But Lake Livingston State Park is beautifully kept. The park store is well stocked. The grounds are clean. There is plenty of parking. The roads are smooth. This is the first Texas state park I've decided would be worth another trip.

What a gem of a park and superior for those with an RV. We absolutely adored the setting complete with private spaces, garbage cans on site, clean yet rustic facilities and unbelievable scenery. Being big walkers it was quite the bonus to have a beautiful walking trail right on site around the lake. We will be back!

We arrived 151 days after making our on-line reservations for the very busy Memorial Day weekend in Piney Shore Loop campground. This was our fourth camping adventure at Lake Livingston State Park in the Piney Shore Loop.

Pros
EXTREMELY quiet during the Memorial Day weekend.
Even tho not backed up to lake, nice view of lake from Site #55.
Double concrete pad as it is an accessible campsite.
Very level concrete pad; no need to do any type of leveling.
Nice early morning shade onto Site #55
Very good privacy from neighbor Site #54 and Site behind #48
Park ranger drive-thru about every four hours
Restroom/showers good working condition, clean, ample hand soap and toilet paper.
Recently paved park roads very nice upgrade
Mosquitoes were drawn to those who strung lots of lights throughout their site, so many did not use those lights which resulted in good dark conditions for night sky viewing.
1-2 bars AT&T cell service.
Lowes, Walmart and small HEB close by n the town of Livingston

Cons.
Campers requiring mobility assistance may find this campsite very challenging, even tho it does have a double wide concrete pad. Site #55 labeled as accessible but is very accessible unfriendly as it is not close to campground toilet shower facilities, fire ring is up a gravel hill on driver side of camper.
Piney Shore Loop sewer hook up required 20 feet of stinky slinky.
No privacy from Site #56.
No privacy from the campground road.
Picnic table in mud hole nearly the size of the table and very unleveled with one end higher than the other end.
Unable to move picnic table as it is chained to concrete pylon.
Picnic table not wheelchair accessible.
No afternoon-to-evening shade what-so-ever.
Site #56 campers permitted their dog to run without a leash.
No park WIFI

Wanted to take the dogs camping without the long drive. Camped here before and love it. They have new blacktop and new concrete driveways in Hercules Loop, its really nice. Everything was fantastic except the mosquitos! They're pretty bad this year! Bring plenty of repellent!

We very much enjoyed hiking the trails at this park. The trails are well maintained and well marked. There no mud when we hiked after a heavy rain.

Spent 4 days at Lake Livingston SP. It started out rough when the site we had (109) was impossible to back into (38’ 5th wheel, Ford F-350). Talked to the ranger and got the site right next to it and backed in easily. The problem is all the ditches at nearly every site. The ranger even said people had to be pulled out with tow trucks often. After that, everything was great. Huge park, great trails, very clean bathrooms and beautiful lake views.

It’s been years since we visited and we were pleasantly surprised by the improvements in the park. The roads have been freshly paved and many sites are now concrete. We only stayed for a day so we didn’t get to use the many trails or spend time in the lake but we have no doubts we will be back.

We will be camping in the thanksgiving week, wondering if firewood are available to purchase at the park?
