Another experience quashed by the pandemic. We tried to get to the dam on a Saturday and everything was locked up totally. The little peek we got of the lake looked inviting.

Lake Livingston is beautiful. The dam is disgusting. This is what the beach area below the dam looks like. Do not waste your money paying to park up top at the Browsers gas station/marina. Unless of course you are just going down there to dump your trash.

The dam itself appears to be old and it also appeared they are trying to renovate it. The water level in the river side was very low and there must have been close to 100 people within 300 yards of the line that crosses where you are not supposed to cross.
These people do not actually know how many alligators the Parks and Wildlife Office places into the water here at the boat ramp. Over the last several years they have put out hundreds of live alligators on the boat ramp to swim off to new homes. These people are CRAZY!

WE love water and the dam is beautiful. it is not so big as any other dams out there. However, it is enough to have a great view.

Lake Livingston is a large lake, it has a lot of stumps and things you need to be careful about. when boating and there are alligators there too so beware.

It is interesting and calming to see the fishermen below the dam, but you can't get close unless you want to pay to park. Once the hydroelectric part is finished, it will be more interesting. Free to see the dam.

This Dam is being overhauled to create power for the community. It serves as a barrier to the largest lake in the state of Texas. The man made lake called Lake Livingston was built for the city of Houston in need of a water supply. Houston is now the largest city in the state of Texas. This Dam is powerful and does not open very much to full capacity but when it does, it floods a lot of land and property. Take a trip to see the landmark on the outskirts of Livingston, Texas but in the county of Polk (named after President Polk) in the original spot where the Livingston community was generated.
