It was over 100 degrees when I visited the Nature Center. Nevertheless, the trails offered enough shade to help shelter me from the sun. Mostly thorn scrub dry land birds present. The permanent restroom facility is adequate. Trails are well-maintained, although the map available at the visitor center (trailer) is a bit confusing. Fortunately, this is not a big place,... More

Located in the center of the city, it can appropriately be considered the heart of the city. This is, in my opinion, the best public place to connect with nature in McAllen. The forest trails are not huge but still hold there own and sustain native thornforest, a site nowadays. This alone is more than a reason to visit. And... More

My wife and I were on the lookout for things to do and see in the McAllen area and noticed the Nature Center as we drove by. A day or two later we rode our bicycles over and walked the trails. Someone has done a lot of work there...the trails are nice and wide and well maintained. So lots of... More

Anything outdoors in McAllen is a wonderful nature experience. It is full of beautiful plants and wild birds on the right days. Enjoy the outdoors and take your sunscreen

Came down from Houston for a 2 day workshop but it was so peaceful, I stayed a week. They have everything here from the different trees, insects, landscape, etc. Everyone is knowledgeable and answers questions that you did not know you had.

As birders who regularly come to the valley, we had never discovered this park before. With the report of a rare bird, we found the location and spent about an hour there one Sunday morning. It is a lovely spot, with two types of forest habitat, and some cactus gardens. While we did not find many birds at this time... More

It's the best place to go explore the trails and do yoga or tai chi on weekends. It's a little nature in the midst of the city.!

Took the kids to the center and was a little lost while exploring as there weren't any signs to direct us around. The kids took it to be an adventure, trying to find our way out of the maze-like area, hence the 3 stars. Didn't see very many birds except for a few sparrows. Lots of insects, cacti and beautiful... Amazing place to enjoy nature! It is right in the middle of the city and you will be surprised how much wildlife there is. So many species of birds, insects, and flowers. Free of charge, but please donate to this wonderful park.
