Stunning history in an eminent seat of learning

The interior courtyard has to be visited. Steeped in history, a majestic building. Three tiers of colonnaded balconies rise above you - exceptional.

What a beautiful place to visit. Full of history. Our Spanish friends took us on a sight seeing Day. They explained all the history of the place. It was busy but not so you couldn't take your time looking around. I think if our friends hadn't been with us we would of struggled to understand as we don't speak or... More

I took the guided tour and although I did enjoy all the stories and funny facts about the place, I did not find it that impressive.

Important place to visit while staying in Alcala de Henares. It was a quick visit, but the history and beautiful architecture made it pleasant.

Make sure to visit the University while in Alcala de Henares. I attended a Summer Session to improve my Spanish. It was a great experience.

This is the original site of one of the world's first universities, named "Complutense" (which associates it with the city of Alcala), founded in the late 1290s. Although the university moved to Madrid in the 1800s, many of the buildings (and courtyards and gardens) have been restored, and are simply beautiful. One of them is used for the annual award... Visited the very fine 16th C. University building and square, as students were registering for their new academic year so the place was lively.. Lovely ornate stone facade was being restored but we were able walk into the huge main courtyard the four/five floors of arches and the lovely gardens beyond. Square itself is pretty with fountains and some nice... More

From Guadalajara we continued to Alcala de Henares which is a UNESCO listed old town and a World Heritage Site. The buildings in alcala in general are very rich in architecture and a monument heritage. As such this university has nothing less but is an outstanding building in splendid architecture and history. The main facade is really beautiful. Something which... More
