- lexmillerBurlington, Massachusetts1,150 contributionsRoyal Naval Cemetery, a short walk from the DockyardThe Dockyard itself consists of souvenir shops, restaurants, a museum and a dolphin experience - all located within the historic buildings of the Royal Naval Dockyard. But what many visitors miss, we feel is the most compelling aspect of the Dockyard, which is the Royal Naval Cemetery, just a short walk from the Dockyard buildings. We spent several hours there exploring this hallowed ground reading the stories on the gravestones/memorial stones - fascinating! A beautiful, peaceful location - the history here is incredible, read the stories of those that were lost on their stones and prepare to be amazed and moved.Visited November 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten November 26, 2023
- Katrina WNew Kensington, Pennsylvania31 contributionsLot’s to do.Royal Navy Dockyard has something for everyone. History, shopping, restaurants, entertainment. Snorkel Beach is walking distance from the pier. Lounge chairs are available along with a bar/restaurant and restrooms. Be warned there are glass pieces up and down the beach. Probably washing in from the water. There are many local excursion available.Visited November 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten November 27, 2023
- LibbyToronto, Canada27 contributionsOur Cruise Ship Docked Here -Lovely spot - our ship docked there and there was lots to see and do. Museum was great. We also made use of the local bus to Hamilton. Met lots of characters on the bus. Had a nice time on the island. Because all the food has to be brought in - it is expensive to eat here. My favourite thing was listening to the tree frogs at night. They whistle.Visited November 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten December 3, 2023

Nearby are a shopping mall, a ferry terminal, and restaurants. Taxis are also readily available.Visited October 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten December 23, 2023
- NickyI10 contributionsThe Best Guide around BermudaWe were introduced to Mr Quinton B Bean by friends who live on the island and have used his taxi service. Although he is a taxi driver, in his own air conditioned mini van, he is also the most informative and courteous guide round the island of Bermuda. His depth and spread of knowledge is phenomenal and he imparts it clearly and with humour. My husband and I spent a lovely four hours in his company and would do so again very happily if we had the time.Visited January 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten January 23, 2024
- psudinoWeehawken, New Jersey4,435 contributionsEasily the best cruise ship work we've ever been toThe one thing about Bermuda is that there is very little tourist trap attractions here. You can tell that the Island's economy is not reliant on tourism, it's insurance and financial services. There are no kiosks selling cheap Goods because the people who live here are all middle class are better. The dockyard has some nice stores a historic military Barrack and is the starting point for lots of fun excursions. If only all cruise ship ports were like this one!Visited April 2023Travelled with familyWritten February 26, 2024
- Life2TravelCharlotte, North Carolina1,651 contributionsEnjoyable area to explore close to cruise shipWe have stopped here twice while on two transatlantic cruises and it is clear Bermuda has invested money in the dockyard. It is right off the cruise ship with a museum, shops, restaurants, bars, visitors center, water park and a location to book or meet a variety of water or land tours. The area is easily walkable (flat) but there is a free shuttle ( in the summer) you can use as well. This visit , we walked around the dockyard and mingled in a few shops. We spent most of our time at the National Museum of Bermuda, which we enjoyed. There is certainly plenty here to enjoy a few hours close to the cruise ship.Visited April 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten May 6, 2024
- freutmich765 contributionsA Pretty but Limited AreaIf you arrive into Bermuda on a large cruise ship, you'll dock here. There's not as much to see as I thought there'd be, but the Dockyard area still makes for a lovely walk and it has some interesting shops to check out. The highlight is the Bermuda National Museum, a 5 to 10 minute walk from where ships dock. It's outstanding and shouldn't be missed. Otherwise, if you just take a walk to check out shops and restaurants, an hour or two should do it.Visited May 2024Travelled with familyWritten June 4, 2024

We stopped in as part of our Royal Caribbean cruise itinerary and selected to do the secluded beach excursion....it was amazing! Bermuda beaches are simply stunning, and there are even beautiful fish you can see swim by while you are in the water.Visited May 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten June 9, 2024

There is a blow up water park, a few restaurants, a rum shop, pharmacy, multiple art and pottery studios, the mall, multiple clothing and souvenir shops, a small park and splash pad, miniature golf, the dolphin experience, beach access for a fee, and the museum.Visited June 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten June 28, 2024

It is about a haff mile walk from ships to shore, however they have a free tram that shuttles around the facility during the day. Once on shore you will find a variety of restaurants, pharmacies, a couple of museums, a duty-free shop, and a enclosed air-conditioned shopping mall with numerous gift shops and jewelry stores. There is also a ferry stop with frequent service to and from Hamilton and less frequent service to St George.
The is also a frequent bus service to and from Hamilton. Except for the restaurant, everything closes by 6pm when a ship is in port and 5pm otherwise. We found prices of souvenirs to be slightly higher than in Hamilton.

We decided to go to Dockyards a couple of times on our trip for lunch and afterwards we enjoyed watching the boats whilst eating an ice cream. They also have some shops here for example the Craft market (local handmade items) and The Clocktower which is a small shopping arcade, a pharmacy and a few other little shops too which sell touristy items i.e. tee shirts etc.
This is also where the National Museum of Bermuda is located in the old fort area and you can play mini golf here, as well as catching the ferries to go to Hamilton and also to St. George.
Finally, there are restaurants like Frog & onion, Bonefish etc.
We have been here a couple of times over the years and it’s still good area to wander round, although I expect it gets very crowded when the cruise ships dock.

Our cruise was docked at the Royal Naval Dockyard and what a great location. I was a bit concerned it would be far from everything, but the ferry to Hamilton and St. George was within a very short walking distance. The dockyard has some cute shops for souvenirs and Bermuda momentos. All in all, quite convenient to just about anything you want to do. I recommend taking their public bus #7 to Hamilton which can drop you at Horseshoe Bay; bus #8 to Hamilton gives you a more scenic view of the inland, residential areas which is fun to see as well. Masks were mandatory for everyone on the bus. Note: bus drivers were the only unfriendly Bermudians we met!

The Queen Victoria was a day late arriving in Bermuda due to weather. Our Captain skillfully docked at the Heritage Wharf at the Royal Naval Dockyard. Evidently, we were the first cruise ship of the New Year. This is the largest port on the island and is steeped in history. It is a must see on a trip to Bermuda; combining old world charm, centuries of history with all the modern conveniences of today. The locals call it the Dockyard with the name referring to hundreds of years of history dating all the way back to the American War of Independence; when Britain lost that conflict, the British Royal Navy had no base between Nova Scotia and the West Indies, and work began on creating a naval base in Bermuda. Dockyard officially closed as a naval base in 1995.
It is so easy to walk around the Dockyards. When a cruise ship is in port, a train trolley (that moves on wheels) goes around the dockyard starting near the cruise terminals and passing by the important places completing a full circuit. It makes frequent trips during the whole day. This is a FREE service just for the Dockyards. You can hop on and off at various points. Our driver was Shawn, and he was truly a delight. He was welcoming, friendly and upbeat. He gave us a wealth of information about the Dockyards. We decided to take the trolley all the way around to get a lay of the land. There is a lot to do at the Dockyards so we decided to stay there.

We visited the Dockyard recently by cruise ship and I highly recommend getting off ship and walking around. Very clean and very safe, even after dark. We also had a snack and beer at the Frog and Onion Pub which was pricey but good!

I think if we visited again that we may score the dockyards differently but on this occasion we arrived just as a cruise ship docked. Quite a few shops to look at but we felt most were selling touristy products at inflated prices. Kids were disappointed that the golf was closed. Very busy, so would like to go back to see what else there is to see.

Came on a cruise. Very clean, felt safe, lots of transportation options. People were friendly. Short walk to beach. They have one free shuttle train, would have liked to see it stop at the NCL side and come more often. Views were great. LOVED IT

We may be going to Bermuda for the first time next year. We will be on a cruise docking at the Naval Dockyard. How easy is it to get around? We will be there for a day and a half, and want to explore on our own without the high cost of ship Excursions. Mainly, the forts and the Crystal caves. Is this OK to do, or should we stick with the cruise line Excursions? Any help would be appreciated.
Written May 23, 2024
You can get a bus pass and see the whole Island inexpensively. Excursions are great but costly. It is safe so you can book directly with the operator. Be careful renting mopeds. It is easy to get hurt.

Hey NCL cruisers. Does anyone know if NCL is operating its ferry service from the Dockyards to St. Georges in 2019?
Written April 25, 2019
Was there at the end of April. Yes they run 3 times per day. Wonderful, great views and Free.

Where can you take the free trolley from? How long does the ride take? Can you hop on and hop off?
Written August 17, 2018
Be careful. There is dock construction and the shuttle route has been shortened, especially if you’re on Celebrity.

Hi, is this a kid-friendly port to dock at (15 yr daughter, 12 yr son). They might be more interested in activities, etc. Please advise. Thanks.

We are on a cruise and docking for 3 days in Bermuda, is it worth renting a car and touring on our own?

We will be going to Horseshoe bay but want to take a taxi or minibus so we can spend the day rather than just 3 hrs on the excursion. Does someone know if the taxis and minibus come to the bottom of the hill and how easy is it to catch one for the return to the Dockyard?
Written March 23, 2017
I hope It's not too late to respond; just saw this question! It is really easy to get to and from Horseshoe Bay. LOTS of mini vans available pretty much all the time. We were there last summer and paid $7 per person one way. But I thought it was worth it! I worried a bit about having availability when we were ready to leave, but totally unnecessary worry. There's a large parking lot where you are dropped off so you do have to walk a bit. Horseshoe Bay is glorious! Enjoy!
