The Interurban Railway Museum is strategically located in Plano's Haggard Park and surrounding historic downtown and neighborhood. Amenities such as a playground, picnic tables, a bandstand, and a small pond can be found within the park. Parking is available in the lot immediately adjacent to the museum and the DART rail stop. Museum guests will enjoy a tour of Railway Post Office Car #360, guided by a uniformed rail car motor man. Guests will learn about the rail post office system, discuss period advertising in the train car and learn more about electric rail travel. Guests will also tour the Interurban Railway Museum, learning about regional history in the history room, exploring interactive displays in the science room and experiencing the working "O" scale model train layout and other period artifacts. For those wishing to explore the park and surrounding neighborhood, information is available for a walking tour of the historic area surrounding the museum. Also, be sure to ask about the public art pieces in the neighboring park and the museum's time capsule! Every Friday at 10:30 a.m. the museum offers a children's story time, hosted by professional storyteller Genie Hammel. The museum is open Monday through Friday 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. and Saturday 1 - 5 p.m. Special field trip programs are available upon request.

Great little museum about the old electric railway in Dallas. A docent will take you inside the restored car. There are some interactive exhibit areas inside that are great for kids. It's also right next to the 1 block long "historic Plano downtown." So wander...More

If you want a small train museum experience, this a good place to go. The focus is, of course, on the vintage local Inter-urban system (now defunct) and you actually get to hang out in one of the old cars. A fun and inexpensive diversion...More

It's a museum, which is good enough. But then you add in docents (which on my trip were all 70+ year old men) who are passionate about the topic, and you get a day you'll never forget. Kids and adults will love this place, but...More

Interurban Railway Museum is a great stop in Plano, for train aficionados young and old. The museum offers a bit of education on electric trains, and historical information on the Interurban Railway. Located next to Haggard Park in Plano.

The place is so convenient that one tends to ignore it for just being a train car. I did so for almost 25+ years of living in the area. I happened to be in the park next door one day and decided to stroll through...More

The museum is housed in the old power station that used to power the railway. A trip round the museum consists of a guided tour of the exhibits and is so interesting. Almost every exhibit is interactive and brings the story of the railway to...More

Although I dated the visit in April 2016, my visit was many years before. The museum captures a part of Texas transportation history that is often forgotten. The segregated cars are a stark reminder of the Jim Crow era in Texas. The railway was used...More

You wouldn't expect a neat piece of history like this to still be here, but this is a neat little excursion for an hour or two. The museum tells the story of the interurban rail that operated north south in the Metroplex years ago. Anyone...More
