Saw many different types of birds. Had never seen a roseate spoonbill before. From the observation towers saw many other creatures-fish, birds, crabs & an alligator in the reeds. Fortunately there was no odor. As others have noted, great opportunity for photos. Would definitely go...More

Go as close to sunrise as possible (maybe 1/2 hour before) and an hour before sunset. This is when the activity is the greatest. Saw huge alligator, who disguised itself with mud .... looking for unsuspecting birds. The walkway was well above the water and...More

This is a really neat walk way that we would never have seen had it not been for a Geocache out there. Unfortunately the cache was missing, but we enjoyed the walk anyway.

This is a very nice, but small, park adjacent to the wastewater treatment plant. Don't let that keep you away. Has some nice landscaping, and a very nice boardwalk with a viewing tower. This time we saw 3 alligators in water under the boardwalk. They...More

Although we didn't see any alligators, we saw lots of crabs and fish. A group of nutria (babies and mama), and a black bird without a tail and a baby. It's super stinky though--where you park. Blah. That was the worst part. The kids enjoyed...More

There is an unpleasant smell in the parking lot due to the nearby water treatment facility. However, don't let that discourage you. The Leonabelle Birding Center has a nice boardwalk. It is a good place to see a nice assortment of water birds.

Don't rush through this place. Stop and really look at your surroundings. Things to see may be a small bird going nose to nose with a snake, a mother bird grabbing a fish and feeding it to her chick or a rodent working its way...More

We went to this birding center which is located next to the Waste water plant, so yes there is some smell. And you're walking on a walkway out over the treated water that attracts birds and fish and gators because there is so little fresh...More

NO dogs, please. Not at this small locale. Birders are trying to see lifetime listers; you will be ousted. Follow other directions above for dog care. Mustang Island dogs okay.
