77 steps to the top. And once you get there - take a picture and go back down - not much to it. Don't plan on going up or down too fast.

I figured this would be a free attraction because I did not see any signs. But it is not when you walk into the lighthouse a lady sitting at a small desk tells you that you have to pay to go up to the top....More

There is a lot of history with this Lighthouse. I suggest purchasing the combo package with the history museum. You get to climb the stairs and go out on the balcony of the lighthouse to take pictures. There is a square around the area with...More

Quick trip up and down. We were there early so there were not a lot of people. 55 and older can get a senior discount.

We climbed all 74 steps to the very top and made it back down again. We are all older folks so are very proud of ourselves. The views from the top were wonderful. Someone needs to clean up the dead birds and bird poop however....More

If you are in the way to South Padre Island it is 1 minute detour. Goes back to 1852. You can climb up to top by stairs. Nominal fee to visit it and museum. Or day trip from Padre Island. Lots of food places nearby...More

Only lighthouse on Texas gulf coast that visitors can enter and climb to the top for excellent views of the Laguna Madre Bay and Port Isabel.
