Lighthouse is currently closed while they are working on it. There is scaffolding all the way around and to the top so we could not get a really good picture of it. But it was interesting.

Before you drive on over to South Padre Island stop here and climb the stairs of the Lighthouse. You get an Excellent View of the Island and the surrounding area. You can see why the Lighthouse was built here.

We were at South Padre for a month. We were around the lighthouse many times. There is scaffolding around the structure. One time I saw 2 men at work. What is the problem? Seems there is a major hang up! Never got to see it....More

Unfortunately the lighthouse is still closed and under construction. Very disappointing to drive up and see all the scaffolds.

It looks they are almost finished with the redo. There was scaffolding surrounding the entire lighthouse. it looks as thought the exterior is being redone.

After we ate lunch at Los Cobos, we checked out this beautiful old lighthouse. Even with the construction work going on, it was still a thing of beauty. J

Lighthouse is being worked on. That s ok. Very foggy and that's OK too. It's 70 degrees better then 37 degrees and snow..we are on vacation from Fort Wayne IN... Padre Island is paradise with fog today!

Someone recommended we go up the lighthouse in the morning vs. the afternoon, and we were glad we had taken their advice. It still was pretty warm, even at 9 a.m.The climb included narrowing stairs and a completely vertical ladder, so is not for those...More

Historical lighthouse worth a stop. Light-keeper's house nearby and a cute little square. Can walk up to the top for a view.
