    AMAZING!
OMG what a great camping experience! The spaces are so nicely spread out. You didn’t feel like you are on top of your neighbors. Far enough to never hear a peep from anyone but close enough to walk over if you want to introduce yourself. Great places to walk with amazing sunsets. Here comes the best part! We had the thrill of being where the Park Rangers were when it was time to feed the Bison and Longhorns.

    Bike trails great. Otherwise disappointing
We were not expecting the extremely low water level of the lake. That was disappointing. However, the bike trails are great. We are intermediate level riders and found several trails challenging. The signs marking on the trails are excellent. We did not have any other RVs on either side of us, which was very nice.

    check out the whole park!
Nice park. There are two sections, the South Shore where you check in along with the longhorn and bison herds and the majority of camping, then the north shore where the good stuff is at along with camping and the equestrian campgrounds. On the north shore are miles of trails which by the way start inside the Equestrian entrance at the bell's trailhead. Up here you will see tons of prickly pear cactus as far as the eye can see. Never saw so much in one place. It is also here that along the dinosaur trail you will reach Little Foot Draw. there are supposed to be roughly 165 trackways of the Permian Dimetrodon a reptile that lived 100 million years before the dinosaurs. Unfortunately, the day we did the hike was after a couple days of heavy rain so the draw was full of water and the tracks were not visible beneath the murky water. The Slick Rock area was also interesting. On the south shore where we camped are some nice camping areas that were well paced and quiet.. The sad thing about this park is that the lake is going dry. It was only 16% full when we visited. They just can't get enough rain in the area.

Dinosaur Prints and Long Drops with Hitching Post
We caught it on a lovely warm afternoon. We went to the North Unit to see the dinosaur prints. It’s a shame you can’t get the gate code without going to the South unit because we drove past the north gate down to check in and had to drive back up. We walked Dinosaur Bike path. It was well marked trail but if you do the trail the prints aren’t at the first river crossing cross the river walk down and it meets the river again and they are there. The ones we saw weren’t big but it was a number in a row. The path itself was mostly flat, lots of cacti. I think on a hot summer day it would be very exposed but was nice on calm winter afternoon in the sun. The facilities I found in the North Unit are long drops which I was not expecting, there was a horse hitching post outside the long drops which was amusing. The north area seems very horse friendly with mini horse pens by the camper spots. There are bison in the South Unit in a paddock. Apparently if you come at specific times and days they have feeding near the gate. We saw a number at a distance here. This park has a number of things going on with bison and dinosaur prints and things. A nice park and if you’re near by and like outdoors worth a stop. We go to a number of state parks in TX and if you are interested in seeing Bison Caprock Canyons has them free roaming and if you want to see dinosaur prints Dinosaur ValleyState park has some very large ones.

Nice size and clean. The sad part is the couple times we went, no other dogs were there so our pup was disappointed.

The San Angelo State Park is a must see for any nature lover. One of the top Sights to See recommendations from the friendly staff at Econo Lodge San Angelo, the newly remodeled hotel I stayed at, I went for a quick visit. Only it became a two to three hours long visit since the park is large with lots of nature activities to do. This is a great sight and will definitely make you realize how many wonderful natural attractions San Angelo has.

Hike and see pre historic something another that in the barren land that the state spends who knows how much taking care of so the few may park their RV here occasionally. This is not a destination, this is a definite waste of tax payer money.

We were very disappointed in the desolate look of this place. We sat and had a lunch there but it was just not a place with nice scenery. There was an area there we found with plenty of picnic tables but no trash bins. the cost was $4 per person but not worth it.

We camped in the North Concho area, which is the equestrian camping area. Campsites are generally farther apart compared to the regular camping areas, so we felt we had a bit more privacy. The downside was no sewer hookups and no showers near our area, so we had to be careful of our water management while there. There are no pedestal type grills, so any outdoor cooking had to be done over the ground level fire rings.

There are many trails available for hiking, biking, and horseback riding, and our grandchildren were able to run, bike, and play without worry about traffic. The campground is gated and the combination is only given to those with reserved sites, so traffic is minimal. There are some great views in this northernmost section of the park, especially at sunset.

Good place to visit if you enjoy dry, hot and isolated. We were the only campers in the entire section we were at. Trails are okay. We expected to see bison and Texas Longhorn cattle, but did not. Lake very low due to drought. Facilities clean but outdated. First-time visit, we will not go back.
