Ila Loetscher, the "Turtle Lady of South Padre Island", originally formed our organization to save the Kemp's ridley sea turtle in 1977. Now we are a sea turtle hospital with a mission to rehabilitate and release any injured sea turtles, increase awareness concerning their safety and habitat, and assist with conservation efforts for all sea turtle species. We are funded by donations, grants and gift shop proceeds--

This tiny gem of a non-profit turtle sanctuary will be the highlight of your South Padre Island vacation. Even if you only have an hour to spend there, your time will be well spent standing within inches of the turtles and learning the difference between sea turtles, and their land cousins. My hat is off to all of the staff... More

I ❤️ turtles!!! This place is free and has amazing stories of how these turtles got to where they are. Some other stores are truly amazing how they even survived but thanks to this facility they did! They do ask for a donation whatever you can afford. Absolutely amazing and I am looking forward to going back again!!!

A small, but important facility operated by volunteers supported by donations. It is an operational rehab operation for sea turtles. A number of turtles are available for viewing and their work is explained by staff. Definitely worth checking out.

We finally stopped and went in. what a surprise we got, it's donation entry fee, they have several types and sizes of sea turtles in various degrees of rehabilitation. It's very interesting to hear the story of the different turtles by the staff. you can tell they are... More

It doesn't look like much from the outside but it's very interesting to visit. There are a variety of sea turtles available to see and the workers are very informative.

Been there several times. If your interested in sea turtles they provide a lot of information as well as access to many turtles that have been rescued in the area. Admission is free but donations are excepted. I would recommend it to all visitors of the island.

We didnt realize how extensive the efforts are that are being used to rescue, save and rehabilitate sea turtles. These people are making a difference in the lives of the turtles they save and to make everyone aware of the dangers that the turtles face. BRAVO, keep up the great work.

We had to stop and see the turtles. Donation only. There always seemed to be a crowd so it is a popular stop on S Padre.

You get to see many turtles up close. They feed them and have helpers around to answer questions. A gift shop is available.
