Taste Buds is a good, clever option for couples/dates. Most ppl at our event seemed paired up. This isn't culinary school; more a casual/fun atmosphere. Basic knife skills were demonstrated, but focus is more on very basic food prep/mise en place. Recipes are dial-in well, and easily translate to home kitchen. Recommended!

This is THE best undiscovered restaurant in Fort Worth! Excellent food every time I eat here and the service is 2nd to none. There is a great deal of variety on the menu and everything is from scratch. You have to try this place. You will become a regular, I promise!

WEFUL CUSTOMER SERVICE
Please do not waste your time going here. From start to finish they have horrible cust service. We ordered 3 packages on Groupon (2 people per package) and the registration process was a mess. You have to go to their website, reg a profile then email them before your reservation is confirmed. We did this as a group except for 2 people in our group did theirs later on the same day. 4 of us got the same date the last 2 was denied (3 DAYS LATER). When we asked to switch our date so we can all go together, they tried to charge us a $5 fee per person (this was never listed on their policy with Groupon) they would NOT make an exception. Why not have a better registration process so you can tell if a party can't all fit???
So only 4 of us went to the cooking class and the chef was very unenthusiastic, even his story about how he became a chef for this company was depressing.
The steak dinner is NOT worth the money it's a small iron steak and they only cook it one way which was medium (they don't tell you this until it's time to cook). The appetizer is a half a piece of lettuce with homemade salad. You only get one side which is mashed potatoes and the way they make it your mashed potatoes are cold by the time your steak is done.
You have to share ingredients so you have to decide who's going to do what at your table instead of having your own set of ingredients (you have to share a batch of potatoes so I hope you like your potatoes the way everyone at your table does). The food was bland and they didn't use any special ingredients them what you already use at home (pepper, salt, garlic POWDER not fresh garlic)
There is no fun to it...it was just 'do this do that' and then eat. The worst part was you had to eat STANDING UP on the SAME TABLE you preped your food on.

My friend and I recently took advantage of a LivingSocial offer and tried Tastebuds Kitchen for the first time. We came to the Sushi & Dumpling making class. It was so much fun! Signing up for the class online was easy.

Upon arrival, we were warmly greeted by the staff and told to pick a table. There are 5 tables that have 5 seats on each. WARNING: If you do not have a full group of 5 with you, you will have to share with strangers and that means share everything. The food that is supplied is per table, not per couple. While hand-washing is strongly encouraged and reminded often, people who are germaphobes will not like this. Even dipping sauces are all shared out of the same bowl.... You are asked to sign a waiver and there is an apron for you to put on.

When the class gets started, the staff will break things down into simple steps for you. First they show you what to do, then you turn your attention back to your table and do it. The staff members come around during this to make sure you have all the help you need. The staff was really excellent, especially Mr. Smidgen who taught our class! In addition to learning how to prepare the food, they also teach you tips and tricks when it comes to knife sharpening, cutting skills, proper way to crack an egg, etc.

The dumplings were made from tofu and veggies (no meat). The sushi was mostly veggies: peppers, cucumbers, carrots, avocado, cream cheese and imitation crab. There were some spicy peppers if you wanted to add some kick to yours.

Everything was create and eat with your hands - there were no plates or silverware set out however I had asked for a plate and fork and they were provided to me no problem. The staff did a great job with constantly cleaning up the workstation for you - clearing dishes and utensils, sanitizing the counter, etc. It never got so cluttered you couldn't work.

There was plenty of food and you could make as many rolls as you wanted. Most people only made one but there certainly was enough left over to make a second one. There were also to-go containers so you could pack up what you didn't finish if you wanted.

The owner was there and shared with me that they currently are most popular with their kids classes. They have things like gingerbread house making, cupcake decorating, etc that families can do together. They also host birthday parties there as well. The adult cooking classes are a little slow she said but expanding. This would be a fun alternative for bachelorette parties, birthday parties, interactive date nights, etc. It really was something fun and different to do!

The class lasted 2 hours however the staff didn't make you feel rushed to leave. There was a group there that had brought a cake with them so I'm sure they stayed for dessert. The place is BYOB so feel free to bring along booze, soda, etc. They provide only water.

The only potential negatives I experienced are as previously mentioned, you may need to share your food with strangers which can be hard for someone who is freaked out by germs. I encourage coming as a group of 5 to avoid this happening. The other is I feel that the class is priced a little high. Without the LivingSocial deal, it would have been $55 per person. We certainly did not eat $110 worth of food however we did feel we got a lot out of the experience and had fun. Not sure this is something I'd do often at that price. I think $30-40 per person would be more appropriate.

Overall, great night out and fun! I encourage you to give it a try!
