Great story behind the architect. Ask at the museum or any local shop owner for info! I love shopping the square. Local people are friendly and I really like shopping there. The courthouse is a beautiful anchor for the downtown area.

It's like walking back in time. One feels they could be setting in a western movie from the 1800's while inside the building especially in a courtroom. Quite amazing. We walked entirely around the building before finding the one entrance - wheelchair ramp area. Was rather surprised to find the staircase is the central focal point inside the building. Definitely... This is a beautiful old court house. If you like fancy, this is it. Pictures other have added tell the story better than I.

Wonderful, historical courthouse with a very insightful tour available. Great shaded courtyard right in the center of town with lots of shopping.

The architecture is beautiful inside and out of this historic structure! The guide we had the day we visited was very interesting and informative. I don't know though if guides are available on a daily basis or if it was just because of the Texas Country Reporter festival.

The Ellis County Courthouse was built in 1895. In 2002 restoration work was complete which returned it to it's former glory. The courthouse is in daily use by several county departments, courts and judges. It is open to the public. However, access is now accomplished by a lower floor access ramp on the north side of the building so security... More

The Ellis County Courthouse is one of the iconic Texas courthouses. It was recently renovated but the exterior remains authentic. It is worth taking the time to see all of the old court houses as they are a testament to our Texas heritage and are all architectural wonders!

Many neat things to see on this building and tales to hear about its creation. Very cool little town square.

The architecture of the Ellis County Courthouse is magnificent. The grounds are well kept and there is good parking nearby. It is a good idea after spending time taking in all the subtleties of the beautiful design of the courthouse, to take a walk around Waxahachie downtown, visiting antique shops and quaint dress shops. Dove's Nest is a lovely place... More
