Jared and the North Wash Outfitters crew provided a great canyoneering course and experience. Instructors are knowledgeable and experienced. I learned a lot and had a great time. The trip down a slot canyon on the final day was a great culmination of the training and opportunity to practice what you learned earlier in the course. Jared and the instructors were friendly and fun to interact with. Definitely worth doing a course with North Wash Outfitters if you want to become more competent doing technical slots! We did the beginner course in North Wash, which is an awesome area away from hoards of people. Our class was the only group in the slot canyon during the final day. Thanks North Wash Outfitters!

Awesome course! Jared and his team are so competent -- I felt very safe with this group and appreciate their patience as I learned the anchor rigging and rope management techniques. The rappelling and ascending practice was fun and controlled, and the all-day practical in a North Wash slot canyon was a blast. I don't think there is a better place to go to learn the basics of Canyoneering!

Took the beginner canyoneering course. The course and instructors were great! Highly recommend for anyone looking to get some formal canyoneering training.

I took the 3 day beginner course in North Wash. It seems like many of the competing canyoneering guides in the region offer one-day excursions for their intro/beginner courses, which didn't seem like nearly enough time to me to learn something as involved as canyoneering, and after taking the 3 day beginner course with NWO, I feel confident that I made the right decision going with them. Even after 3 days of very involved instruction, I feel like I'm just scratching the surface of what there is to learn. It can be a very risky activity without the proper knowledge, so getting proper instruction is absolutely vital. I was confident every second of this course that I was in good hands! There were 4 instructors for 10 students, so we received a lot of individual attention, and all of the instructors were experienced canyoneers who have been doing this for years, with plenty of knowledge to share. I had never been canyoneering before taking this course and was feeling nervous, but they did a great job of stepping me through the process and answering all of my questions. The first day was lecture/Q&A about safety, equipment, anchors, etc. to give us a theoretical understanding; the second day was practicing skills like rappelling and ascending on a small practice wall; and the third day was completing a beginner's canyon in the area to apply what we learned. For the amount of instruction received, it was a great value and absolutely worth it. The only small negative for me was that there is such a huge amount of information to cover, that the lessons had to be fast-paced out of necessity and I didn't always get a chance to practice as much as I wanted to, but I was also the least experienced person in the class, so I think the pace was right for the group as a whole, and I was still able to follow everything that was going on. I know enough to have a clear idea of what I still need to practice on my own at home before my next trip. The folks in class who had been canyoneering multiple times before this class also seemed to take a ton of information away from it, so it seems like it would be useful for people of all skill levels looking to fill in the gaps of their foundational knowledge. Highly recommended!

I just took the beginner technical canyoneering course in April 2023. Before the course I had done a lot of canyons but because I was self taught I knew that there was so much more to learn! I signed up for this course so I could gain skills that would make canyoneering safer and start getting tips/tricks for unexpected situations that could arise while in a canyon.
Jared, Tammy and Lisa blew my expectations out of the water, they are super passionate and knowledgable and made this course so much fun!
The things they taught us will most definitely be invaluable for all of our canyoneering adventures to come.
On top of that, I met a bunch of new friends who share similar interests and will hopefully be joining them in some canyons in the future.
I do want to mention one other thing, if you sign up for the course in Northwash, definitely sign up for the meal plan, the food was fabulous and spending that time with the instructors was so much fun!

Just wrapped up a beginner technical canyoneering course last week, and I couldn’t recommend them highly enough for both beginner and experienced folks wanting to hone their skills in the canyons.

The whole instructor team was VERY experienced and truly top-north, seamlessly catering to the needs of both the absolute beginners and intermediate folks. I have been through other similar courses (WFR, Swiftwater Rescue) and the quality of instruction and attention to detail is exactly what I was looking for. The group size, student/instructor ratio, and team dynamics were phenomenal for quality instruction.

I must mention too, at the end of the day we walked away with solid networking amongst our peers, which in itself is extremely valuable in this team-oriented sport. A+

This company also offers other classes aimed towards more advanced techniques and rescue rigging for canyons, and best believe I will be attending them too! Can’t wait!

The course was very practical and aimed at folks with solid outdoor experience but limited canyoneering experience. Safety was emphasized, but it was physically and mentally challenging. The teachers/leaders were very experienced and mature, not the typical inexperienced youths you might expect leading an outdoor programs. Well worth the time and effort IF you are serious about canyoneering.

Took the three day technical canyoneering course in April 2023. I had minimal experience and wanted an introduction to technical skills and gear, and a foundation to build on for eventually leading groups. That is exactly what I got. I found the course to have a good balance of lecture, hands-on training, and adventure.

Very well worth the price and exceeded my expectations. I have taken a lot of wilderness education courses (WFR, PADI, etc.). This stands out as one of the most fun and engaging experiences I've had over the years.

Our group was diverse in terms of background, skill level, and fitness. In my view, the instructors struck a good balance to keep everyone engaged. Jared was the primary instructor, and we worked a lot with Tammy and Lisa on exercises and our eventual canyon excursion. I really liked their whole crew. They are passionate about canyoneering, and about sharing it with others (which is cool because a lot of people are getting grumpy these days about sharing fun with newcomers).

They are nice people. A lot of laughs.

I think the only way you could go wrong is if you already have too much canyoneering experience—in which case take the more advanced class(es). Seems like Jared is also a pro at rescue and will drop some heavy knowledge on you there...

Jared is the man you want to learn canyoneering from. Without a doubt, you will not find a better instructor than him. His guides are also incredible at what they do and extremely knowledgeable. The progression of the course is absolutely perfect, going from learning the basics, to practicing what you’ve learned, to real life scenarios in the canyon.
