Before we went to Sand Hollow I was trying to find more info on boating and where things are at on the lake and if we really would get swimmer’s itch. I couldn’t find much so I just thought I’d leave some info for someone else.
We brought our boat from Nevada, got there at about 8am and they said at 10am they would reach capacity and not let anyone else (including cars) in for 4 hours (which is what happened). The reservoir is really small and it felt like a free for all with so many boaters and jet skis every where. We were there on Labor Day weekend so I’m sure other times are much better.
The scuba area is by the main boat ramp. It’s larger than expected and it looks like that would be fun. There’s a dive shack right there too.
If you walk to the left (if you’re facing the lake) from the main boat launch there’s a place where lots of people cliff jump. You can also paddle over or boat there. It’s a bit of a walk if you park and walk to cliff jump.
On the other side of the lake was where the sand dunes are and the BASH place to eat/rentals. There was no dock by BASH and the water was really shallow for a long time which made it impossible to beach our boat. We had to anchor and walk through waist high water. It was pretty swampy there and got me nervous about swimmers itch. We rinsed off at the showers and had lunch. The food was good.
It difficult to find a spot to beach our boat anywhere on the lake. We anchored off by the cliffs since the water was clear and floated some stuff to shore.
We’ve been home 12 hours or so and so far we don’t have swimmer’s itch. We tried to swim in deeper or clear, shallow water and rinse and towel off after swimming.
I’m glad we went to Sand Hollow. It’s a unique place but with the crowds, lack of good beach options for boaters and looming swimmer’s itch, I don’t think we will be back with our boat. We might try scuba diving another time.

We camped here for a night and really enjoyed it! The campsite was isolated enough to be private, but not scary. There was a nice covered table area and plenty of space for our small tent. When we arrived, the park was closed because it had hit capacity for the day, but luckily we had camping reservations so it wasn't a problem. We found the spot for cliff jumping and had a great time! There were crowds there, and the rocks were difficult to climb, but it was worth it. Lots of people sat on the rocks and cheered the people jumping - overall great vibes! To avoid having to climb back up the rocks, I swam around to the beach area - a bit scary since no one else seemed to be doing that (many people had pulled up in boats). We were able to find our own spot away from people on the beach later in the evening. The following day we rented paddle boards at the larger beach area. It was really nice, although we did have to share space with boats and jet skis, and the water close to shore had a good deal of oil in it. Still, it was a nice day!

It's a beautiful state park. The entrance fee is $25 but it offers amazing views and you can swim in the blue waters or ride jet skis. There are also sand bikes and 4x4s running around the beach. A lovely outing anytime for family or friends. Very close to St. George and a great tourist spot.

sand hollow was something i didnt realize that i needed to experience. Its honestly beautiful and the perfect cool off in this desert. We come here often and it offers a lot of things to do and free life vests for anyone to use. You can choose to stay cliff side or beach side. My kids love it, i love it and its fin for everyone. Although i do hear that sometimes people get swimmers itch. We've gone several times and (knocks on wood) and havent gotten swimmers itch.

We went here for the first time with two teens and one under 10. The teenagers loved it! They did the cliff jumping into the water. Then later we let the younger one go to the beach side and play which was great as well. We went later in the evening which was great because it was still hot but the sun was not blazing on us. It was also less crowded later on from what I heard. A super fun place to go for all. If you do the rock jumping wear good shoes for the climb over as it is sandy and slippery and can be dangerous.

Came here to jump of the rocks into the lake. Earlier in the season, the water is pretty cold. Hard to swim because it's so cold. Later in the summer, they have signs warning that there's algae that is toxic and not to swallow any of the water.
To get to the cliff jumping rocks, park all the way on the left side of the parking lot. It's about a 1/4 walk from there. A lot of people also bring their boats out to the lake. They have decent backrooms with plumbing.

There’s an entrance fee of $20 for non-resident ($15 if you live there) and they don’t accept the National Park Annual Pass even though the National Park Annual Pass is good for national, federal and state parks in the US. It is a state park so I’m not sure why they don’t honor it. There’s also an active “Swimmer’s Itch”.
The site it self, its ok. Its man made water park and the rock formation is pretty cool and you get to cool off on the water when its pretty hot. However, I would not recommend this place.

The employees of Bash Beach Hollow that worked in the life jacket area were terrible. They were young kids with terrible attitudes. The acted like we were an imposition to their day. I have a feeling they just get hot and cranky, but it was disappointing. Once we got to the edge of the lake those employees were awesome and VERY informative! We loved being on the lake and we rented a ski doo and a two man kayak. It was SUPER busy out there, so be careful! :0)

The best place to spend a hot day in Southern Utah! Refreshing clean & clear water to swim in. Lots of rentals available. We rented a kayak for 2 hours at a very reasonable price. Beautiful red/clay colored sand. Small admission fee required to get in, but well worth it. Plenty of parking and space to set up for the day. Highly recommend making this a stop on your Utah bucket list. We will definitely be back!

Hello. I saw your post on visiting Sand Hollow State Park in May? What part of May did you go? We're planning on going there on May 28th. You said that the water was cold. I'm just trying to gauge if late, late May will be good. If you also went there in 'late late' May, then I guess I can expect cold water? Thanks.

I don’t know the answer to that. We didn’t camp when we went. We just went for a few hours and stayed at a hotel. 😁

We are looking to possibly rent a UTV Labor Day weekend. Temps are pushing triple digits during the day. Thinking of renting in the evening from about 5pm or later. Anyone know if it starts to cool off at that time?
Written August 19, 2019
Not really, it won't get cool until later on, 9-10PM. It will cool to the low 70's by sunrise so great for a camp fire breakfast

What is the best beach on Sand Hollow for swimming with kids and have a jet ski? Last time we went, we stayed in a rocky area where jet skis were not allowed. I was wondering where people with jet skis stay to enjoy with families?

Can you kayak or SUP in month of october and what is cost
Written July 7, 2018
The only fee to use Sand Hollow is a $15 per day fee. Kayakers and paddle boarders are at the mercy of waves produced by power boats. There are enough areas around the island that are protected.
