Some close campgrounds are overcrowded, even with a reservation (other nearby canyons), but Rock Canyon camping seems less crowded in comparison (perhaps it is just less vehicles because more people hike in), but may also be due to being a narrower canyon which breaks the...More

Mostly single pitch, quartzite in the lower canyon, limestone in the upper. There are a few multipitch routes on the northern walls but care needs to be taken with loose rock. The canyon does get hot still in September so you need to start early...More

Geologically significant and scenic trail in a spectacular canyon. Rock climbers as well as hikers and trail runners abound. Water and restrooms at the trail head.

I've been up Rock Canyon countless times since 1991. Whether going for a short hike of a few hours, or an all day hike, I always find something new to enjoy. The scenery is always fantastic -- winter, spring, summer or fall.

I have gone to this place many times. For rock climbing, taking a walk, or to camp. There are really pretty, secluded places along the trail that are great for camping or having a fire with friends. And it has many great areas for rock...More
