It will probably be ok at the rim because it is pretty high but as you desend it warms up not just because youare going down but also because of the tension you will have. We went as far as the tunnel. We were there 2 weeks before they closed for the season. At the tunnel i was comfy. I know thye say to wear long pants for protection from chafing on the saddle. Cant say how the temp will be be in july. Take bottles of frozen water with at least. Hikers use the same path but the mules have the right of way. Well i would say you only do this once so what the heck, take a shower when you get back up. Alan
