Look out the window

We've driven through this twice on road trips now, and each time I was struck by how WEIRD the landscape is.

200 km from SLC is a unique place! But when I arrived (may 2016) it is almost all water! To see a dried-up lake white needs to go in August, not before

We went in the afternoon yesterday (9/11/2016 Sunday). It takes about 2 hrs from Salt Lake City. We missed the race, but place is amazing. It was a bit cloudy but Sun tried to come out frequently from behind the clouds, so weather was very pleasant and sunlight was magnificent.

This is an area that is amazing both for its natural beauty and for the feats of speed that are undertaken here. We got to go out onto the salt flats while some racing was going on and it was really interesting to see some of the cars and bikes that were participating. Well worth a trip. I recommend that... Salt Flats were amazing, something to see as far as you could see. The track this past weekend was ~5 miles. Fastest car we seen went over 350 MPH and a motorcycle over 180 MPH. Entrance fee gives you access to the pit area, starting line or you can park along the track but bring your binoculars as the track... More

The last 2 years Speed Week was cancelled because the salt was too wet. This year the salt was really dry. I kinda like the salt wet I think it makes the flats look so beautiful. We didn't race this year so we just went down to watch. There were no lines for racing while we were there on Sunday.... More

Travelled to the US for Speed Week 2016 at Bonneville. Despite seeing it on the tv, I thought I knew what to expect but the reality was far more than expected. Wow! The Salts are surreal and play with your mind. It looks like snow but it was SO hot. The sun reflects upwards as it bounces off the salt... More

This is a two hour drive from SLC and easy to find (exit 4). The sign that describes the speedway has been covered with stickers by visiting hillbillies - the stickers really detract from the sign. You can see salt almost forever and salt all during the drive there. We drove out on it a little - on a sunny... More

Drove from SLC over to Nevada just for a day. Didn't realize this was on the way. I started seeing more and more desert/white/barren land along the way. I thought to my self, this looks like what might be the Bonneville Salt Flats. Passed the sign, knew I had to stop on the way back. On the way back from... More
