Driving across Utah on I-80, you will cross the salt flats without any extra effort or planning on your part. Though the facilities are very basic and minimal, it's worth stopping at the rest stop near Wendover to look over the flats, or walk out...More

We did not come all this way to not go to the salt flats and see where Bert Monroe did his land speed records. So Iconic. Not much there, 2 signs telling you the important stuff, and lots of salt flats.

The photos don't do it justice. Its a really unique place that's like another world.A bit of a trek from Salt Lake but well worth it in my opinion.

The flats are open all the time! The Speedway is really only set up for actual events. I am not sure when and if those are still held here

There is a rest area that you can stop while coming from SLC. We were driving towards SLC when we visited and couldnt turn around to the rest area.
