My family and I adore this museum. You can see and touch most of the antiques and displays, which are beautiful and well organized. You feel transported back to a simpler place and time. We love how this museum is run by locals who truly make you feel like you're part of their family! After spending an hour or two here, you feel that Ludlow is your hometown too. God bless the Black River Academy Museum and the people of Ludlow Vermont!

This isn't a destination attraction, but if your in the area stop by! There is a nominal suggested donation. Worth it to continue to work of the museum foundation.

The first floor is set up with rooms resembling home life in Ludlow in years past. Also, a little information on the former students of the Academy.

Second floor has an exhibit on Finland and the settlers of the region. And a cute table of children in town interviewing adults that grew up in the area.

The third floor has military memorabilia.

Our visit took maybe an hour or so. Not long, but we got a good feel for the area from the exhibits.

The is an elevator to access the upper floors.

The Black river Academy Museum (also home to the Black river Historical Society) is located in the old school where President Calvin Coolidge attended. The three floors are filled with interesting exhibits that outline the history of the people and businesses that created and developed this Vermont area from its inception in 1761 to the present. Chief highlights include: the role of the Finnish immigrants in the area, the furniture and businesses that grew in the area, and the collection of photos and memorabilia covering these periods. The museum also has in its collection a World War II section. The museum is fully ADA accessible. Due to its limited hours and open days, interested people should check the museum's web site or call to see if it is open.

Run by a staff of two and volunteers, this museum is full of wonderful pictures, furniture, and other historical items - almost all relevant to the Ludlow area and the school that once occupied the building. Also has a special exhibit about the Finish folks who settled in the greater Ludlow area. No admission fee, though they do ask for a contribution if you can. Just a neat place!

While staying down the road from Ludlow, we saw the Black River Academy Museum on a side street. It is housed in the old Academy building. What a little gem ! We were met at the entry by a wonderful lady who was very forthcoming as to what is housed in the 3 floors of the museum. Ludlow has a rich history and it is on display here. This is not a staid, behind glass cabinet museum. Many of the displays were created by students. They did an amazing job creating different environments on each floor, from a school room to an early kitchen to a dentists office. This activity engendered another generation of Ludlow citizens to appreciate the rich fabric of the town.

This is a work in progress and improvements to the building for enhancing the visitor's experience continue. This is where Calvin Coolidge went to school, along with many others. For a glimpse back to simpler times, this is worth a visit.

The local historical society created this museum during the 1076 Bicentennial. Since then it has grown and improved. It provides a wonderful picture of the town over the decades. There is everything from photos, maps, and documents, to local artifacts. It is a wonderful way to create an image of Ludlow, Vermont over the decades, and is well worth a visit.

A landmark in Ludlow, Vermont...for starters President Calvin Coolidge went to private school there. As you drive down the street you can feel the history as you pull up to this magnificent building from the 1800's ...located on the Black River, you walk up the steps back in time to the good old days...
