The Capitol of Vermont. Driving into Montpelier, one would see what you would not expect. This is a very small complex for the Capitol of a State. The Extension Offices are in older amazing homes surrounding the State house itself. We arrived on a Sunday...More

The first thing that strikes you as odd are the lack of metal detectors and security. People come and go from their seat of government unimpeded. This is also the case in hearing rooms where one is welcome to enter without knocking to hear debate...More

The State House is easily located in the centre of town. There is street metered parking and it didn't look too busy. It's free to enter and you can wander thru to see the Hall of Representatives and the Senate. All in a very ornate...More

My family toured the capitol during our stay in Montpelier. The building and grounds are beautiful, and it sets off to itself instead of being completely surrounded by buildings. Our tour guide was delightful and engaging, as was the security staff. The tour is very...More

The towns of Waterbury, Stowe and Quechee are nice small towns to visit that are close to Montpelier, if you have a couple or few days to enjoy Vermont.
