Merck Forest and Farmland Center is a non-profit educational institution with a mission to teach and to demonstrate the benefits of innovative sustainable management of forest and farmland. We offer a variety of seasonal recreational opportunities including rustic backcountry cabins and campsites for rent and over 30 miles of forest trails for recreational hiking, horseback riding, snowshoeing and cross-country skiing. We produce farm and forest products for sale and Vermont-Certified-Organic maple syrup. We conduct educational programs specializing in environmental sciences, sustainable agriculture and silviculture for students, adults and apprentices. Through education we seek to encourage our visitors to engage in the activities of a working landscape, and to become good stewards of the land.

A fun day for all ages. You can hike the mountains or stroll through the farm. See the process of making maple syrup from the woods to the boiler. You can get up close to many of the farm animals. A gift shop is available. Nice day for the whole family.

Hiking on well cleared roads and some trails. Info available to assist in a hike within your time frame and abilities. Some beautiful views. Can make a donation if desired.

Merck Forest is free to park and see (although they ask for a donation) and has lots of great trails from short (~0.3 miles) to wicked long. Although the visitor center closes at 4pm you can still drive up and explore the land. They ask that you leash dogs near the visitor center and farm area. Overall, the views of... More

We went camping here in one of their cabins for a long weekend. This place was awesome, the cabins are well maintain and have plenty of sleeping space and a wood stove to heat the cabins during the winter. We loved the place. The view were outstanding, you could see for miles and the sunset were amazing. We stayed up... More

Thank you for your positive review. We hope that you'll be back soon! You might try a cabin stay in the wintertime -- there's nothing like the peace and quiet of a mountain cabin in the winter. More

Beautiful views, delicious produce available. A working farm dedicated to sustainable practices, this is a great place to bring the family, see the animals, take a hike, camp in a cabin. I got married in the saphouse in 2013- epic sunset!

This is an all around great place for everyone to get outside and enjoy. There are animals and a working farm and special events like a pancake breakfast with their own maple syrup and the sheep dog trials. You can come and camp winter or summer in their very rustic cabins or hike their many beautiful trails. So much to... More

We came here on a Sunday morning to hike during a recent trip to South Vermont. We hiked up to the top of the mountain for a spectacular view of the leaves (just beautiful). They have cabins that you can rent and stay in and would love to do so on a future visit. The staff was very friendly and... More

My wife and hiked in the Forest on 2 days during our recent trip. This is a nice spot for assorted hiking/walking and having a pleasant outdoor experience. I would recommend for individuals and families and only suggest that you choose your trails and distances with some care depending on your abilities.

We took a hike to this beautiful place from a house that we were staying at in Pawlet, Vermont. This place has amazing views and is the perfect place for wonderful nature photos. We enjoyed our visit and hike. We were hoping to see more animals but the babies hadn't been born yet. Looking forward to a future visit here... More
