We used to visit the Shelburne Museum quite a bit when I was younger, but it's a been awhile. We were pretty disappointed to find out after driving almost two hours that only 4 exhibits were opened, none of which were appropriate for children. They had a nice kids activity, but after two hours in the car, the kids were... More

Huge space but no dog allowed to enter even if buildings are closed....... There is an entry fee. It seems interesting from the outside but I didn't have a chance to discover it.

This museum was founded by Electra Havermeyer Webb, who grew up in New York, where her parents, Henry and Louisine Havemeyer, were collectors of European and Asian art. By the age of nineteen, she resolved to follow in their footsteps but instead envisioned a collection that would celebrate the arts of America. The fascinating part of this museum is that... More

The Shelburne is a treat. So many collections to enjoy. Plan a good day for walking and wear sensible shoes. If you love dolls ask about them. See a lighthouse, a steamer ship and train, carriages of every design, covered bridge, print shop, blacksmithing, weather vanes, etc, so much to see and learn and discover. The staff are happy to... Spent an afternoon here and could have stayed longer. The first thing we did was go into the building housing art works of Grandma Moses as well as others. It was a fabulous gallery display. There was another building housing works of Monet, Rembrandt, Wyeth and others. Downstairs was also circus posters that was worth the time. The Ticonderoga was... More

Looks like a great place. It's only when you arrive that you discover that about the first of November, they shut down everything but four buildings. Yeah, admission's cut to $10, but you get to go in about 15% of the buildings, NOT including the steamship. This is a deceptive ripoff – to drive hundreds of miles to a destination,... More

The day our tour took us here was rainy and cold so that certainly inhibited any walking around we might have done. We did take the jitney drive around the whole museum to at lease get a look at the old buildings. It looked extremely interesting and had it not been raining, would have been a great site to explore.... More

If the word "museum" conjures images of being quiet, standing in front of glass cases and reading about things that you'll soon forget, then museum isn't quite the right word for the Shelburne. First, we visited at the peak of fall colors and the grounds were beautiful. Even if you aren't interested in Americana, and I usually am not, I... More

Was on my bucket list and well worth the time and trip! We bought our ticket for Saturday and returned for Sunday. There's so much to see.
