Walked this 4+ mile roundtrip walking trail while visiting Monticello. The paths were very well maintained with pretty wooden bridges and gorgeous scenery. A pleasant way to get some exercise while traveling. Great way to let the kids work out their wiggles too:)

Charlottesville, Virginia is a very long word to write out and spell, so folks in these parts just call it “C'Ville.” My wife and I just moved here from South Bend, IN. We are exploring this region with fresh eyes. We feel it is a pleasure and an honor to have the opportunity to share it with you. Today we... More

We walked part way on the Saunders-Monticello Trail and found a dirt trail that led off from the main trail (one of many that we saw). The main trail is lovely and easy walking and the side trail led us to a pretty overlook. If we go back again we would like to explore more of the secondary trails. We... More

The trail is well maintained and shady on a sunny hot day. It is unfortunate that the highway is so close because it really detracts from this lovely nature walk.

I you have some spare time and love walking in nature, consider parking your car at the beginning of the trail and walking to Monticello rather than going there by car (it's some 2 miles up the hill), it is a really lovely walk, especially in spring time. Also great for picnic on the grass or a visit to the... More

A great trail where you will come across so many folks either running, walking, with pets, with kids, Senior Citizens, families! It's an easy slight incline walk and some of it is boardwalk but the whole thing is stroller friendly! They also have trails off the path. You can walk all the way up to Monticello. It's a great place... More

Great for all, children, strollers, young and old! Love that it is shady in the summer and bright and sunny in the winter. Lots to look at, deer, birds, toads in the pond, trees, Cville's skyline, the visitor center at the top. Great place for walking alone with your thoughts (safe) or with a friend catching up on life. I... More

This was a straightforward 45 minute walk along paths and board walk from our accommodation at The Inn at Monticello. The path arrives at the Monticello/ Jefferson Foundation Visitor Centre, which has excellent facilities, restrooms and a cafe, with very informative interactive media. There are lovely vistas and a good range of tree species planted along the trail which makes... More

If you are looking for a walk on a quiet, peaceful trail this is the place. It is two miles from the bottom up to Monticello where you can partake in the cafe and rest up, before the walk down to the bottom. Trees are labeled and there are some off shoots that are interesting as well. Beautiful views in... More
