Although the original house is no longer there, it is still worth a visit to learn more about Monroe and his role as a founding father and early president. The staff are very friendly and knowledgable, and I learned a lot in a short time....More

This could easily be a ho-hum excursion but couple it with a fantastic guide on a Sunday afternoon brings the home and Madison story alive. Recent excavations have changed some facts. Beautiful furniture.

We visited Monticello (Jefferson) and Montpelier (Madison) so we decided to visit Highland as part of our tour of the Virginia Wine Country. Great scenic views and only a short hop from Montpelier.

Much quieter than Monticello and more relaxed. The out-buildings were mostly reproductions but the main houses were original. The original Monroe house foundation has recently been found. The guides were very knowledgably and would answer any questions that you might have. A good visit
