Overview
More
In 1774, Thomas Jefferson, one of America's first wine connoisseurs, convinced Italian Philip Mazzei to establish a vineyard on our property. With the financial support of Thomas Jefferson, George Washington, Thomas Adams and other prominent colonists, the Virginia Wine Company was founded on present day Jefferson Vineyards. Today Jefferson Vineyards is a boutique, family owned winery. We have been creating nationally recognized, quality Virginia wines from classic varietals for over thirty five years, and are considered a pioneer of the Virginia wine industry. We are located between Monticello (home of Thomas Jefferson) and Ash Lawn (home of James Monroe). We open daily for tastings, from 11AM - 6PM. Tastings are $10 and include a souvenir wine glass. We offer mostly dry wines. Tours are not currently offered. We look forward to your visit.

We stopped on a Monday afternoon and the tasting room was very busy. Pourer seemed bored to be there. When we visted 10+ years ago, it was a much nicer vibe.

I gave this a 5 when coupled with lunch from Salt, which the separately owned sandwich shop across the street. Like any of the vineyards, Jefferson doesn't really have lunch food. Yes, it has some cheese and meat plates, but doesn't serve sandwiches. So, what...More

We stopped here after seeing James Monroe's home - Highlands - on our way to the Michie Tavern for lunch. (Separate reviews for both) This vineyard does mostly red wines, but we stayed for a tasting anyway. The first wine was a dry white, and...More

This winery is located near Monticello and is excellent. The wine tasting I had was educational and nearly every wine I had was good. I bought a bottle to go home and walked around the little bit of grounds they had before I left. The...More

Whatever you do keep Roland! He is an excellent story teller and representative of your vineyard! There were 6 of us and our favorites were Montage and Viognier! Beautiful views too!

A great stop after touring Monticello. A bit pricey, but it includes a lot of wines to taste and a souvenir glass. Usually, the people at these places are more willing to chat and discuss the wine. That wasn't the case when we visited, but...More
