Overview
More
In 1774, Thomas Jefferson, one of America's first wine connoisseurs, convinced Italian Philip Mazzei to establish a vineyard on our property. With the financial support of Thomas Jefferson, George Washington, Thomas Adams and other prominent colonists, the Virginia Wine Company was founded on present day Jefferson Vineyards. Today Jefferson Vineyards is a boutique, family owned winery. We have been creating nationally recognized, quality Virginia wines from classic varietals for over thirty five years, and are considered a pioneer of the Virginia wine industry. We are located between Monticello (home of Thomas Jefferson) and Ash Lawn (home of James Monroe). We open daily for tastings, from 11AM - 6PM. Tastings are $10 and include a souvenir wine glass. We offer mostly dry wines. Tours are not currently offered. We look forward to your visit.

This winery is small but they are very helpful and it was a great way to taste wine produced in Virginia. They had a wide variety of wines. Many of the wines were new varieties made from Virginia grapes. THe person who managed our wine...More

The visit was a last minute decision and so glad we did it. Wine and history was good. We had wished they had some sort of restaurant but they no longer have one. They had my favorite C-Ville Candy! You must try some! Small but...More

Upon arriving, there appeared to be a number of available staff members who were not assisting customers. We walked up to a tasting booth (?) and were completely ignored by the tasting associate. After a few minutes of standing there patiently waiting to be helped,...More

Wines are very good , but the tasting room itself was small and rushed. If you are not a member , you can't use the extra room, so an additional glass on a bad weather day is tough. We did buy several bottles for gifts...More

We visited Jefferson on a Friday afternoon - probably not the best time for a relaxed experience. We had also visit two others earlier in the day and this was perhaps the least engaging. The tasting room was very crowded. Fortunately, the person pouring the...More

Knowledgeable staff that can tell you a lot about each wine. The wine is very good from the whites to the reds. Good atmosphere and outside seating. I did not see any inside seating though.
