About
In 1774 Thomas Jefferson and Filippo Mazzei created Virginia's first commercial wine company and vineyard on our estate. Four decades ago, we introduced quality modern viticulture to Virginia. Our wines range from delicate and refreshing, to elegant, full-bodied and rich. We are one of the highest awarded Virginia wineries for Viognier (the state grape). In 2001 we bottled one of Virginia's first Petit Verdot varietals. We continue extensive experimentation with these two varietals, skin fermented white wines and a range of small batch estate reserve wines that reflect the best of our Virginia terroir. We are located 1 mile from Monticello and Jame's Monroe's Highland Estate.

get here early! it's a winery so expect people.
The staff were all very friendly and knowledgeable of their products. they offer a good variety of wines, to me most of them lacked character. they just seemed to be cookie cutter versions of themselves.

the overall experience was good... but It's a winery, and they get docked a point for ok wine.

Thank you for your visit and kind words regarding our winery and our team. We appreciate your feedback. We understand wine tasting is a subjective endeavor. Did you notice some of our award winning library and reserve wines also available for purchase?

Staff was knowledgeable about their wines and took the time to explain them. The facilities were not among the best.

We appreciate your kind words regarding our staff and their wine knowledge. We take pride in knowing about wine given our rich history. Our boutique winery is on a smaller scale and thus focuses on more intimate experiences rather than hosting larger crowds. Except on busy weekends.

Really nice winery around the cornern from Monticello. Nice staff and wines (Cythhia our server did a great job telling us about the history of the place and pouring our wines for us). Favorite wine was the 2019 Meritage. It was a breezy day but the indoor room was open and very comfortable. Bringing your own snacks/picnic is allowed. Will definitely go again during our next visit to C-ville.

We thank you for your visit and feedback. We are always pleased our staff have been helpful in sharing their knowledge of our wines. At present, and given all the concerns with COVID, we have chosen to remain an "outdoor service only" operation. We hope to change that in 2022 and bring the warmth back to our boutique winery. End of April and May are especially beautiful times to visit. We look forward to welcome you again.

We tasted wine here which was fine in reasonably priced flights, I assume due to COVID. There was only outdoor seating and it was rather crowded. When we visit wineries, we are looking for a more relaxing atmosphere. The presence of many children running around and screaming did not enhance our experience. However, the staff was very nice.

Thank you for your review. October is Virginia wine month, and Saturdays (the day of your visit), are very busy and crowded for almost all wineries in Virginia. For a more relaxed visit, we highly recommend the off season - January, February, June, July, August and December. These months will offer you a more intimate wine experience. Weekdays are typically less crowded as well. We hope to welcome you again soon.

Nice average wines. It’s scenic and had various cheeses and crackers for sale to enjoy with your wine. Staff was friendly and prices for flights were reasonable. All outside tasting and seating, due to COVID. There are tents and large umbrellas to shelter from the sun or rain. Some wines are sold at the local grocery stores for a cheaper price.

Thank you for your review and your kind words about our offerings. Did you also try our award winning wines - Viognier 2019, Cabernet Franc 2017 and 2019, Estate Reserve 2017? These wines are more premium and we think you might enjoy them on your next visit. Most, are not available in stores.

Our first stop on our wine tour! It was a great way to start our trip. We were offered a self guided tasting and got the red and the white flights. We were served outside and offered outdoor seating with mountain views. We enjoyed all of the wines we tasted and even purchased a few bottles to take home. Wines were more expensive than we remembered from the last time we were there.

Thanks for your feedback and for sharing your day with us. We appreciate it. Wine pricing ranges from $19 up to $50+ for the flagship and special reserve wines. This year (2021) is our 40 year anniversary and we have opened our cellars to more premium reserve wines than before.
