In 1774, Thomas Jefferson, one of America's first wine connoisseurs, convinced Italian Philip Mazzei to establish a vineyard on our property. With the financial support of Thomas Jefferson, George Washington, Thomas Adams and other prominent colonists, the Virginia Wine Company was founded on present day Jefferson Vineyards. Today Jefferson Vineyards is a boutique, family owned winery. We have been creating nationally recognized, quality Virginia wines from classic varietals for over thirty five years, and are considered a pioneer of the Virginia wine industry. We are located between Monticello (home of Thomas Jefferson) and Ash Lawn (home of James Monroe). We open daily for tastings, from 11AM - 6PM. Tastings are $10 and include a souvenir wine glass. We offer mostly dry wines. Tours are not currently offered. We look forward to your visit.

We had to wait a few minutes for room at the tasting bar, but once they were able to fit us in we were given the hostess’s full attention. This hostess was very nice and the wine was good enough for us to buy a bottle to take home. The grounds were nice but we did not stick around after... More

This winery was rated #1 on a competitive travel site our friends read while I drove. It's OK,but certainly not the best. Surroundings are pleasant, wines decent quality and our hostess was one of the best this weekend.

We have visited twice over the last years. Each time, we love our visit. The wine's are drinkable. On the last visit, we received Riedel wine glasses which we actually use at home. We bought a selection of cheeses and a bottle of wine and sat on the deck. It was perfect and a beautiful way to end our day.... More

All the wines were delicious. None stood out as particularly special, but sometimes that is good; they were all very drinkable. I'm not a fan of sweet wines, so those weren't my favorite but still tasty. The gal facilitating our tasting was new but still knowledgable and fun to chat with. Beautiful grounds with picnic tables.

It was my 2nd visit to Charlottesville to see a friend in town. She brought me to this vineyard and it was fantastic! We were able to relax on a Sunday afternoon and sit inside by the fireplace and enjoy a bottle of wine after our wine tasting. Great atmosphere and the staff was so friendly. Definitely recommend this winery... More

Went for a wine tasting with a tour group. The tasting was excellent. We tasted about 10 different wines and the guides were very knowledgeable. The tasting room was cute, colonial-style with a nice wood-burning fire. Be sure the check out the gorgeous view of the mountains! You get to keep the glass from the tasting as well. The Viognier... Wasn't as big as I was expecting (not a bad thing), but they have a nice older tasting room, with some space outdoors which would make this place a nice stop for the summer. The wines are pretty good, and they have a large selection. The view of the mountains is nice too.

Our server at Jefferson Vineyards was quite informative. She told us about each wine how it was made, what grapes and the types of flavors we would taste. She also gave us a map of other wineries and suggestions of which are good places to stop. The tasting includes a glass which makes it a little more worthwhile. We had... More

First stop on the wine trail. Didn't know too much about the winery, so we decided to try them first. Exceeded our expectations! The wine was delicious and definitely unique, and the staff was very knowledgeable. (Dave helped us out with the tasting) The relatively small tasting room adds to the element of coziness, especially on a cold day. If... More

This was such a fun experience. The servers were knowledgeable and the wines delicious! It was a great experience, one I will return and do again during the spring when you can sit outside and enjoy the beautiful scenery. The cost to taste test is very reasonable! So if you love wine and want an fun experience on a weekend... More
