Overview
More
In 1774, Thomas Jefferson, America's first wine connoisseur, convinced Italian Philip Mazzei to establish a vineyard on our property. With the financial support of George Washington and other prominent colonists, Virginia's first wine company was founded on our estate. Thirty seven years ago we became a pioneer of the modern Virginia wine industry. Our award-winning wines range from delicate and refreshing, to elegant, full-bodied and rich. Our property is located between Monticello and James Monroe's Highland and is only 10 minutes from Charlottesville. Groups over six guests are welcome to purchase bottles and glasses of our wine to enjoy on our grounds. We can only accommodate groups of six guests or more with a prior reservation on weekdays. We look forward to your visit.

An easy stop on the way from Monticello. The tasting room is nothing fancy but the staff was friendly and knowledgeable and we left with our pretty glasses and several bottles. Nice that they offer veterans discounts too.

Average wine, but tasting room staff needs to acknowledge patrons more readily and be able to manage multiple guests. Pleasant interior tasting room.

Visiting wineries is one of our favorite things to do when vacationing. This winery involved a beautiful drive up the Piedmont Mountains to the estate of Thomas Jefferson to taste 10 wines where the grapes to make the wines are grown on the estate. We...More

We stopped at 5 different wineries while in Charlottesville. Jefferson was our favorite by far. We tend to lean toward white and sweet. We enjoyed all of the wines, including the reds. Our server was very friendly.

It was ok but very busy. I would recommend not going on a Saturday. The guy doing the tasting was ok but due to so many people it was not that enjoyable.

Not the best, but also not the worst winery we visited. Worth a stop for the history surrounding it. The server gave very small portions and did not seem all that interested in doing more than getting us through the tasting. We did buy a...More

This is a wonderful winery with very knowledgable servers. There are a wide variety of wines both reds and white that should please everyone's palate. They continually improved the sitting areas so that you can enjoy the surrounding beauty of Virginia.

I have been visiting this vineyard since 1998. Always happy with the wine selection. They have made many improvements and offer a relaxing, tranquil environment.

A cute little vineyard. They told us they had offered free concerts during the summer which is awesome. The view was amazing.
