The Captain Timothy Hill House was built circa 1800 and is the oldest known house on Chincoteague Island. Originally built to have a wooden chimney...the replication of that chimney is now in place. Listed on The National Register of Historic Places and The Virginia Landmarks Register in 2011...a visit to this house is a step back in time to the early life on the island. Open to the public during the summer season with tours on Fridays 1-3 PM and additionally Wednesdays in July 1-3 PM. Other times by appointment. Admission is free but donations are greatly appreciated.

If living in a tiny house is your thing this would be the place. You can walk around and look through the windows everyday. But to go inside it's open only on Fridays at select times. Is not the original location but this spot makes...More

Likely the oldest building on the island, the Hill House is available for very limited hours with tours by volunteers. This two story cabin has several interesting features and is worth at least a brief diversion for those interested in social history and architecture.

We were simply riding and happened upon this quaint bit of history! We walked around outside. Amazing that it is still standing.

Be sure to look for the carvings of ships/boats on the outside walls. On every side. Some are hard to find, but keep looking. Could not go inside, but you can peer through the windows. Free. Ask the museum about the history of this house.More

Although the hours of operation were difficult to find, the tour itself was well done. It was fun to look at the graffiti on the outside of the building that was put there by sailors long ago.

House was closed as we were here in the late winter, but we will return to visit. The is one of Chincoteague's oldest historic small houses, if not the oldest, on the island & is well worth visiting. Check open hours before scheduling a visit.
