We were here Feb 20, 2017 (off season and colder around 50 but windy)The ponies were out. It seems they can be hard to find at times but we saw a good dozen or more in many different locations. Lots of evidence they have been around as well (droppings galore) Anyway stay a school bus lengths away from them and... More

I highly recommend this park. I visited in February, so can't speak to any crowding in the summer months, but the beach is beautiful and the cove side is very peaceful, full of various birds. Nice lighthouse, too.

We keep coming back every time we're in OCMD. We love seeing the wild horses on the island, the water, the sea life and the wildlife. I think this hidden treasure is worth the drive. You can pay $15 and get a week long pass, drive through the nature park, swim at the island beach, stay when the sun goes... More

We visited Assateague Island National Seashore at the end of the 2016. The day was sunny day and not so cold. I didn`t know the place until my son learned this place at school and he told me to want to go there. Although there are a little bit far from DC area, but I believe it is worth for... More

My friend loves horses so for her birthday I planned a surprise trip to Assateague National park. I was a little worried because it was Jan but the weather, while foggy and a little misty, was bearable. We started on the VA side and managed to see some ponies far off in the distance, the lighthouse was really neat as... More

The Assateague Island National Seashore is a very special place. Our dog and ourselves enjoyed walking the miles of pristine beaches, with the constant breaking of large Atlantic waves. Clean air. A wonderful place to reacharge one's batteries! We liked visiting the National Seashore so much that we went there on three successive days! On one of the days, we... More

We got to see the horses but they were on the sidewalks next to the road only. I would have liked to see them running on the beach or roaming the marshes. Ranger said they stay marsh side in winter because it's too buggy to go there in the summer. We saw one older colt, so cute, the rest full... More

We love visiting Assateague each year while staying in Ocean City. Not only is seeing the wild ponies a unique experience, the view from the beach is beautiful.

This place is perfect if you love nature. Have been camping there for years. There are no hookups. Most parts of the park permit quiet generators until 10pm. You are right at the beach. Ponies roam all over the park. Bring your camera. Please keep your food locked in your car or in your hard side camper. Do not touch,... More
