Beautiful location, excellent displays - a must-see destination for anyone interested in our nation's colonial history. Superb staff. Great place for a picnic, too.

We drove to the monument on a late Monday morning. To our dismay, the visitors center and the restrooms were closed and locked when we got there. The farmstead and grounds are beautiful, and the towering Washington monument at the traffic circle was impressive. This is a nice homage to the Washington family at Pope's Creek.

Thank you so much for bringing the restroom situation to our attention. Although the visitor center itself is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays during the winter, the restrooms should have been open. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience and will make sure this situation does not happen again in the future. So glad you had an opportunity to experience other... More

I visited the birthplace home of our Founding Father in Late January. The property is well maintained and they do not charge an admission fee. The live stock on site was surprising (abundance of sheep, cows, and ducks) and the proximity to Colonial Beach downtown was only a 5 minute drive.

You can really spend a while here with all their is to to explore and best of all, it will not brake the budget and it is free! I would suggest first stopping at the visitors center to get some info on where to start. They have a great group of rangers there that are very informative. There is a... More

A great chance to have a history lesson few are given in school. Wonderful tour guide who really enjoys what she is doing. Tidbits you will not find in books. Beautiful views and a walking trail to boot. A must see historical home.

Our park ranger was really into his message. It was almost like being back in Washington's time. We actually came back the next afternoon as time had cut our visit short-got to talk with that park ranger and had the opportunity to tell him what a wonderful job he had done. Movie on site was also very well done and... More

Beautiful setting and the grounds were immaculate! The tour guide was extremely knowledgeable and helpful. We were also able to see Heritage breed horses, oxen, pigs and sheep similar to what would have been here during George's childhood. Make the time to watch the video, very informative!

Beautiful grounds but disappointed we couldn't see it all with our dog. We appreciated the lovely area we could visit, but were unsure what difference our well behaved dog would have made in the other areas. Unfortunately, some dog owners do not act respectfully or socialise their dogs and spoil it for the rest of us !

Thanks so much for visiting The Birthplace and for leaving feedback! I truly understand your frustration about not being able to take your dog with you to all areas of the park. I'm a dog lover, too, and have often felt the same way with my Belle and Indy. A little context may be helpful in understanding the park's point... More

We were visiting my husband's sister in King George which is only 25 mins drive for us. We love American history so based on Trip Advisor's reviews we decided to visit George Washington's birthplace. Stephen was a good Park Ranger who provided an informative story of George Washington's family and guided us around the area. It is a beautiful and... More

We had a lovely day visiting the various historic sites and other attractions on the Northern Neck of Virginia. The visit to Pope's Creek was delightful--hey, it's a National Park and they are all great to visit. The Ranger tour, as they all are, was interesting and enjoyable. The Georgian mansion built in the 1930s was nice to tour, but... More

Thank you so much for visiting The Birthplace! Many people do visit expecting to see the actual house in which Washington was born when they come here. While the Memorial House evokes various opinions (as it did even prior to its construction in the 30s) the social and political undercurrents in our nation that spurred its construction as a memorial...
