We stopped on our way back from Luray Caverns last weekend. Two adult couples with the guys being gun aficionados = a good afternoon! The museum was very interesting with many different types of guns, hand guns, rifles, shotguns, cannons, etc. Everything was well labeled and separated by category/time period/war. We had a fun time wandering through the ,u swum... More

Well worth the trip from downtown Washington DC, full of historical data and craftsmanship. Well laid out, all exhibits well labeled, an excellent way to spend 2-3 hours.

What a collection of weaponry! Even if you aren't a gun fan, this is a museum worth going to. Just go. It is fascinating to see the evolution of guns over time. My favorite was a combo brass knuckle, knife, and gun. It defies the imagination. Lots of Hollywood, and historical memorabilia. It is cool to use the range which... More

Want to see firearms displayed in unusual ways? I do! Want to see an actual Gatling Gun? But of course!!! Want to see the actual guns that movie starts used? I definitely do! Want Glock earrings? Of course I do!!! DUH! Want a pen that looks like a armor-piercing bullet? Got that! This museum has all their displays in unusual... More

This is one of many very cool museums in the area. I have always been interested in the mechanics of firearms anyway, so it is that much more fascinating to me. This is the kind of museum where you can kind of just browse the basics within an hour or so, or if you choose to really read the notations... More

While the NRA is an intensely political entity, the museum takes great pains to not involve its visitors in the Nation's gun debate. You can visit and review the history of personal weapons, displays of finely made and unique firearms from around the world and bits of history without being preached to. Even the statue of the NRA's patron saint,... More

The museum is not large but they have an impressive collection of firearms used over the years for military and sport use. Exhibits are well organized and the quality of the pieces is amazing. I admire firearms for their beauty of construction and artistry and there were many to admire.

To some people, this is the belly of the beast, and the lair of horrible people. But if you actually go there, and meet the people working there, you eventually realize that not only are they experts in their fields, but they are very nice and attractive people. They, and their museum, are very hard not to like. If you... More

It's a great little museum that is kind of tucked away, we found it by chance in passing. There is a ton of content, the museum has a ton of different sections spanning the history of firearms. There is even a steampunk firearms section, a world war section, and a movie and tv section. The museum is free, the staff... More
